I have been tracking this XPS 17", RTX 3060 model for a while now, and this is by far the best price I have seen to date. Finally pulled the trigger. While I wanted the i7 / 32GB version, RAM can easily be swapped up to that for under $200 and sell the16GB sticks. I plan on getting these later: https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-48...B09S2PNYTY

The next best deal I almost bought is this Costco one: https://www.costco.com/dell-xps-1...23956.html
The Costco deal is $2,699 (300 off), double the RAM but only i7-12700H processor, and is still $500 more!
BestBuy has a similar model to Costco but only 16GB for $2799: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/dell...Id=6504383

Processor
12th Gen Intel® Core™ i9-12900HK (24 MB cache, 14 cores, 20 threads, up to 5.00 GHz Turbo)

Ports
4 Thunderbolt™ 4 (USB Type-C™) with DisplayPort and Power Delivery
1 eDP port with max +3 USB Type-C
1 Universal audio jack

No type A, HDMI or Ethernet… 😳
RTX 3060 is 60w 😳

I'm convinced all these oems put old gpus with new 22th gen because the cpus are too power hungry and hot to cool with any higher of a gpu… Plus a laptop battery has to last at least an hour to sell…

This is way too expensive for not top of the line everything.

Thanks! Finally beat everyone to the punch once!

I hear that, mixed in with supply and demand too. If someone is going go the full blown gaming route, they likely will just get a desktop and save the money.

I'm looking for a premium business laptop with a side of gaming and video processing... To me, the only somewhat comparable (professional design first, then great specs) is the Razer Blade 15/17. They'll sell you a nice looking laptop with an i9 / RTX 3080 Ti... for $4,299 though!

I have the 11th gen i9 Intel version that came out last year, with the 3060. I have the 4K screen and it's just gorgeous. However, as expected with the 17-in 4K screen, the battery life is abysmal. I maybe get 3 hours at most if on battery. It gets super hot also.

Also just a note for anyone planning on upgrading the components. I upgraded to 64 gigs of RAM and also put in a second 2 TB hard drive. All of which was very easy to do. The battery also looks like it is user replaceable, which further extends the life of this laptop.

But just a word of caution when opening up the laptop. I found that I was having random issues with the mouse touchpad. It was registering clicks when there were no clicks, or pushing down on the palm rest was causing the laptop to think I was clicking on the touchpad. Eventually I figured out it was because I had over tightened the screws when replacing the bottom panel after I opened it to add the RAM and the hard drive. Turning the screws a couple of turns looser prevented it from happening again.

I saw a lot of reviews on YouTube mentioning the unpredictable behavior of the touchpad. I think some of it can be attributed to over tightened screws.

Does it get loud or fan turn on if you're doing just productivity work (office/edge etc) and YouTube?

I have the 15" 10th gen i7 w/ GTX 1660 currently, the first year of the design revision. It's certainly not a lap-laptop. Using on a desk, the fans kick in like a jet engine every so often, but quiets down to inaudible levels after a few seconds. If there is a load like a game playing, they stay on. Otherwise I can use it for office work without ever noticing a fan. The current 12th gens are much more power efficient, I am expecting even quieter.

And battery, yeah, no matter what I tweak I can barely get 4-5 hours of basic work without AC. Far cry from the 8-10 hrs advertised. Feeling good about the 12th gen helping here too.

Not for basic office work. If I'm doing any image processing, or even trying to play basic games like Portal 2, the fan really revs up, and the laptop gets very hot. And games like MS flight simulator stutters and, the fans are on full speed. Honestly I'm a little disappointed with the performance of this laptop for the price, and despite it being an I-9 and with 64 gigs of RAM. The only positive with it is the 17-in 4K screen which is really nice. But the weight, portability, performance, battery longevity is all subpar.
