1821+ is almost 2 years old already and potentially new update coming by end of this year if they follow their update trend in the past, I would rather wait….I I
According to an official source there is no upgrade model planned for DS1821+ (i.e. no DS1823+). For DS920+, they planned to release DS923+ in Q4 or early next year.
I never really understood these. The cost of these units are very high, and of course no hard drives. I have graduated to two 14TB HDD in mirror on a simple Storage Space with SMB and put this in a server with a bunch of VMs. I am by no means an expert, but I can stream 4k from it with a FireStick, so it us plenty fast I assume. The price entry on these is so high I never bought one to give it a spin. Does the file system make that much of a difference?
It seems like the setup you have does the jobs you need. I guess the question is why change?
Why are these things so expensive compared with putting together a computer? I get that it's an out of the box system, but you can build a super awesome computer with better specs on everything for the price of that 1600 Nas. I don't get it?
I agree with the hardware BOM as very costly. If you feel that the SW is way too expensive, then you can put together some open source or non-opensource SW. Boom, you could be printing money? The market is wide open for you. I don't have that skills so I'm going to buy a NAS from decently put together Synology made product.
Have you seen that the SP500 has lost more than 25% YTD and we are Still headed down, fed still has to raise Int rates thru 2023. 30 Yr fixed mortgage has HiT 7% from sub 3% a year before. Glut or no glut recession creates bargain on real estate, electronics.. we are slowly headed there ain't no stimmies this time around or covid handouts to keep us spending those $$$
I agree with fact that SP500 is 25% down. But since we're in a Synology product and pricing discussion, you need to show proof that Synology inventory is 5/10/25% bloated in the last few weeks/months/quarters so prices would likely be going south 5/10/20/25/50 %. In Econ, there are macro view and micro view. And there's lies, dam lies, and then there statistics to navigate in the future cast business.
Whenever I post about recession in ssd or other laptop thread some stupid down votes me but sadly this is the truth ain't no hiding around.. they printed the dollars a bit much .. had sub 0% int rates. A bit too long and the pain is being felt by everyone. Mark my words stock market will be in worse shape by Thanksgiving or Christmas this year.
I applaud your confidence in predicting the future. I don't understand why you are giving free stock market forecast where with your time you can make so much more money going long or short on stocks n stock market? Or sell trading reports to ppl who will pay $$$ for that kind of accurate forecasting.

One question, is APPL a buy or sell? 👍🤔👎🤔
I am no genius but when I told my friends back In Jan that the stock market is going shiz they said nobody knows nuthin when ukraine russia thing happened oil started rising..it was obvious with the impending interest rate hikes, ridiculous house price increases from 2020...so I have moved my 401k to cash from stock index fund.
Shorting is way to risky, we all know about GME. And AMC. Who knows BBBY could be next gme.

Ok I will wait till Q4 2022 and Q1 2023.
You seeing very crazy arse deals on 2tb drives yes? Laptops yes? Phones yes? Why do you think all of this happens co incidentally as of SP falling 25%.
Picked a 2TB samsung shield for $120 👌....retails 199 and hynix ssds are dropping like a rock.
If we are really short of chips, ssd, semi conductors why is suddenly the price of all these products that need ton of those items going down in price?
Accept it covid 2020 lot of manufacturers took advantage of us and jacked up the prices of these electronics due to lot of demand.
Now we go down the toilet, with added pressure of inflation, high oil prices, hiring freezes *check meta google amazon netflix* , IPO dead, continued interest rate hikes.
mortgage rate hits 7%, when was it this high last? look it up.. 10Y hits 4% .. we in for bigger shiz.
Venture capital seed funding dead.
Do you really think prices of electronics will sky rocket when we can't afford basic grocery items and feel that pain.
Anyways I digress not here to argue this is just IMHO.

...much digression, I agree. Anything for Synology inventory level since we're still in "this" Synology discussion. APPL? sorry APPL is off topic.
Or to quote my father-in-law "what do these facts have to do with tea prices in China?" May he RIP.
Not the best prices ever on all of them, also I know the reservations about Newegg, but for those of us who have waited for them to come on sale, $100 is about as good as it's gonna get it seems...
just a heads up for people looking at the DS1522+ (Ryzen R1600) as a deal vs the DS1520+ (Celeron J4125). They nerfed the processor by going with AMD so you'll lose hardware accelerated transcoding for plex. Go with the 1621+ or even 1821+ (or just wait) if you don't care about plex.
The DS1522+ is a bargain bin synology and I don't see it holding its value in the future.
So the celeron in the 1520+ is the only cpu capable of transcoding for plex?

The stock market isn't the real world.
Unemployment rate is 3.5%. Help wanted signs are everywhere. I am tired of people saying recession, recession, recession. Get out of your mom's basement and get to work!

I was looking at the ds1522+ but I also need plex for my movies. Not sure if I need transcoding since I use roku for playing plex movies. The point about ds1522+ not holding value concerns me. Thanks for posting.
