I recently got rid of my LS50s (I know these are metas but I've tried both the difference isn't drastic) after ownership of almost 3 years running them using a mcintosh power amp. Although these speakers in general hit above their price bracket, they definitely have unique sound. To me honestly they were flat but fatiguing to listen to. After 30-40min of listening I'd feel my ears would hurt. They have a bit of "shouty" midrange that can but less desirable for some people. Not to mention its very important that they be run using clean class A or Class AB amps, Class-D amps from receivers and low power amps will make this sound thin and shrill.

All in all, if you are open to experiment, go for them, but if you have doubts, its okay to pass on these till you can audition in person/have the right amplification.
Not sure why OP is getting trolled...I'm not in the market for these but maybe somebody is; this is in fact a DEAL according to amazon price history unlike a lot of the garbage that's posted here.
Confused as well. This is a good price for these, I was in the market for high end speakers last month and never saw them this low.

i just ordered wharfedale 12.3 for 600 bucks cpl days ago- how do these compare?
They are for different applications.

The Wharfedale Diamond 12.3 is a tower speaker. The KEF LS50 is a standmount mini monitor.

So the Diamond 12.3 would be more suitable for filling a larger room, while the KEF would be more appropriate for a smaller room or in a nearfield/desktop setup. You would need to supplement the LS50 with a subwoofer to get more full range, whereas the Diamond 12.3 shouldn't require one unless you really wanted more sub-bass for like movies or listen to really deep bass music (electronica, etc.).

I have no experience with the Diamond 12.3, but I recently picked up the standmount version Diamond 12.2 and I think they sound great. They have a more neutral sound than previous Wharfedale speakers I've owned (Diamond 225, Denton 80th Anniversary). which sound more warm and rolled off in the treble in comparison. These newer Diamond 12 series sound very uncolored and true to the source. So if that is the type of sound you're looking for and you intend to use the 12.3 in a medium to large sized room, I think you'll be happy.

Thank you for your detailed response, Sam. So the LS50 Meta is employing metamaterials inside their cabinets to absorb unwanted frequencies? That's what I'd assume. I can see how that could be useful in a headset in order to produce the desired sound signature, but in a speaker you still have to contend with room acoustics. So I wonder how useful it really is in speaker-building.
The Meta material is specifically behind the tweeter and absorbs the back wave off the tweeter diaphragm. Most people don't realize that speaker drivers give off just as much energy off the back of the diaphragm / driver, as they do to the front. And it's all going inside the cabinet and has to be dealt with. This is how they are dealing with the tweeter energy. For many years, B&W's high end models have dealt with it by using a tapered cone behind the tweeter.

I have no personal experience with the LS wireless version. But based on reviews they say the built in amp is well matched and better sounding than entry level external amps with LS50

Read my previous post. After many tries i finally was ready to settled LS50 paired with Hegel P30A as pre and Luxman M900U as power. That was in my opinion the best sound LS50 produced. Until i tested this setup with LS50 wireless II. I sold LS50 and very happy with wireless version. But again, what works for me will not work for you. Key to success is auditioning. Other people opinion is just opinion, like someone who is happy with Q150.

Yes 16 gauge is good for up to that distance (50 feet). But I usually like to go one gauge better than what's called for. So in your shoes I would go with 14.

But what's most important is that you get speaker wire that is 100% copper. There is some wire that is CCA, which has an aluminum core with a copper skin. That's crap. Look for 100% oxygen-free copper.

It does make sense to upgrade once you listen the difference, however to bring them alive they are power hungry speakers and your Denon could not have enough amplification to drive it. Hopefully your Denon has Pre-outs to connect an external amp….don't forget to get a good sub. Now you are not spending $1,300, you could be spending over $5k otherwise they won't sound any different of your Orb audio speakers.
Appreciate it. I have a lot to learn when it comes to speakers and HT systems.

What's the point of scaring people by claiming you have to spend big $$ in gear it takes to make LS50's perform. That just discourages people from pursuing the hifi hobby. It's not necessary to spend that kind of money. These speakers do great with Cambridge, NAD, Emotiva and Schiit gear, that are all highly affordable.

By stating "These speakers do great with Cambridge, NAD, Emotiva and Schiit gear" I assume you personally audition them? And some amps from your list can dig pretty big hole in your wallet. It's not about the most expensive and powerful amps, it's about marriage between speakers and amp, happy and fun or boring and dull.
I have 3 watts single-ended pentode amp driving pair of Lii 15 custom speakers and believe me, it's a heaven under a grand.
Of course if you want expensive nice looking piano finish piece of furniture, $499 Denon from Costco will be just fine.
