Had the 240GB in my cart for the past month. price has normally been around $21.99 since late August, so unless you absolutely need a drive now, you'll probably get more than a $1 savings with Prime day and/or Black Friday around the corner.
The 500gb of this ssd been regularly $30, spend the extra $10 for double the size. Or $60 for 1tb. btw dramless so better for storage than OS drive.
when these things start getting this cheap you can use them like oversized thumb drives with a usb to sata cable for both data and power. dont really need an external enclosure.

I've used a couple of these. Unbelievably slow. They get pegged super easy. Don't try to install too many files and software all at once one after another. I saw after installing steam and rocket league, maybe 10 minutes into the download, write speeds plummeted to 20-30mbps. Which is typical of a cheap dramless drive.

Has Plex improved at all in the last few years? I could never get TV shows to properly organize and music, forget it. Spun for days and would only ever index about ten percent. So basically useless for anything except movies.

My PC died in 2020 and since I replaced last year it have not used Plex. Just keep files in folders and use Air Video server to stream from my Ipad to Apple TV.

Works pretty good for me; I've been running it since 2015 or so. There is still a lot of room for improvement, but theyve also fixed some things. I never had organizational issues w Plex, so I'm not sure what you mean by what you said

Drive is probably okay for the cost, but FWIW, the worst support/warranty experience I've had was with PNY. I had an SSD fail within a year, and after sending it in and chasing for a update for weeks, they finally just sent my failed drive back (without first contacting or notifying me) with a note stating my warranty claim was declined because the anti-tamper sticker was damaged. The sticker was still present and intact; one edge was slightly raised from catching on a bracket in the drive slot of my laptop.

Not only was it a BS reason to deny my warranty claim, anti-tamper warranty stickers are illegal anyway: https://www.ifixit.com/News/15464...using-them

Would this (or the 120GB for $21) make a good boot drive? I just want to get windows off my 1TB and onto it's own drive.

I've never had that problem. They have recommendations on folder/file naming and organization, but I've used it for years and it's always been organize

Same here; I have a ton of rips of media of all kinds and actually just reindexed a bunch successfully. The indexing issue sounds like a weird bug, frankly, especially as I have a friend with a massive collection and he's been rocking Plex w/o a Pass for over a decade, now.

I've been using one of these as my Steam library drive for a while now and it's great for that purpose. Gonna grab another one to bring my Win XP machine back to life for niche uses - not worth spending serious money, but worth $21.

From the comments here, it sounds like a pretty "meh" SSD. I'm sure it's faster than your typical HDD. But if you're using this as the OS disk for a typical PC, it sounds like there's better options.

I tinker with some home server stuff. A drive like this could be helpful to reduce the load on a HDD. Or if you have a $45 Raspberry Pi, try to install applications or Docker containers to this instead of the micro SD card the OS is on. In those scenarios, these drives would be a good because you don't need much, and they are cheap.

It's fine for the most part, so long as things are named "correctly".

There's still things it struggles with though. I've had movies where the cover art it defaulted to was just an image from the movie instead of actual cover art. It can manually be changed, but it's annoying on a large library. TV shows are hit-or-miss with matching the correct episodes, especially shows with specials. Like Top Gear.

Samsung m.2 NVMe drives can be had for the same price:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08K79T9G5
Likewise, Kingston and ADATA drives can be had for the same price:
https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-2...01N5IB20Q/
https://www.amazon.com/ADATA-SU63...B07PLNNDL2
Not convinced this is a very slick deal.

This drive is slower than a spinning disk drive, and when moving around a lot of files it gets slower than a usb 2.0 thumb drive. You'll be in for a world of disappointment.

It was with TV shows specifically. They would not be organized as related in any way. Each file was treated as it's own entity. I admit I did not look into how Plex would prefer to have the folders and file named but no variation seemed to work on my files. I do not know why it failed to work with my music files.

Well, maybe I will take some time and play with it again.
