Had the 240GB in my cart for the past month. price has normally been around $21.99 since late August, so unless you absolutely need a drive now, you'll probably get more than a $1 savings with Prime day and/or Black Friday around the corner.
The 500gb of this ssd been regularly $30, spend the extra $10 for double the size. Or $60 for 1tb. btw dramless so better for storage than OS drive.
when these things start getting this cheap you can use them like oversized thumb drives with a usb to sata cable for both data and power. dont really need an external enclosure.

Now I remember why the discount had applied... Amazon owed me a $10 credit b/c the item (remote cover) I was supposed to receive from Amazon Warehouse back in Aug never arrived even though tracking said it shipped, and b/c I was supposed to pay $3 for it instead of $10 (reg. price), the customer rep offered to provide me w/ a $10 credit as a courtesy for my troubles, but it was only applicable towards items sold/shipped by Amazon in which the SSD was.
PNY is bottom barrel brand I woudl never trust. Samsung SSD #1 or WD NVME. Crucial, Sandisk, Adata and Kingstone, also gud brands.
While PNY is certainly not high end, I don't know that I'd call them bottom barrel either. I'd probably group them with ADATA, Kingston, Patriot, and the like. Samsung, Crucial, WD/SanDisk, and possibly SK Hynix are top tier brands.

I've been using one of these as my Steam library drive for a while now and it's great for that purpose. Gonna grab another one to bring my Win XP machine back to life for niche uses - not worth spending serious money, but worth $21.
Hopefully you're not connecting a Windows XP machine to the Internet. However, they can still be useful for offline, niche uses. Be aware, Windows XP does not support TRIM. That may considerably impact the performance of a DRAM-less drive like this. If you want to use the drive with XP, I'd recommend leaving a portion of the drive unpartitioned, probably 20% or so.
not sure about their ssd, the worst experience with their usb driver. avoid this bramd if you can your data is more important than the money you save here.
I'll second this. I got one of these pny ssds last time they were on sale. It completely failed a few months later. It's the only SSD I've ever had fail on me , let alone without warning.
These are perfect for older game consoles (PS4, PS3, XBOX 360...). Even if it can't make use of the fast transfer speeds, it's good for instant seek times.

Why not use actual thumb drives, without the need for a cable. 256GB thumb drives are available same price as these, or even lower.

They're probably in the "everyone else" tier but I'm not entirely sure. I don't know if the Hyundai brand SSDs are related to SK Hynix or not. SK Hynix was originally HYundai ElectroNICS.
