I missed this when they were $518. I stalked their used section until ones showed up as "open box" condition and sub-$500.
It happens often if you are patient enough. I bought 2 teles and 2 strats that way. My son and i have matching sets!

Yup and it's going to stay that way so get used to it. No sense in commenting how cheap things USED to be before COVID.

This is also $200 cheaper than any other player tele

In my opinion this is much closer to what these guitars are "worth". Before Covid (yes, I know about inflation) I picked up two player telecasters for $600 and both times felt like I paid way too much. Very poor/sharp fret ends, intonation wasn't even attempted at the factory, finish defects, stripped hardware, etc. Good players, but needed work to get there. It's unbelievable to me that they are $800+ now, given my experience with them.

Honestly (regardless of price) I'm much happier with my classic vibe custom 60's I picked up for sub-$300 shipped a few weeks ago, and the player series will likely be moving on.

They will drop when nobody can afford them and the warehouse overflows, supply and demand is a very simple concept. It's not just since Covid ,it's the past 6-7 years or so USA models have DOUBLED (100 percent).Perhaps the ebay tax/fees and higher shipping costs was a factor in used prices.

Bought one when it was $500 last year. Love it. Neck is silky smooth!

People get hung up on MIM vs US but I have a US Performer Strat and I wouldn't say build quality really feels that much different?

I have to agree. I've tried/have a player strat and tele, and the player plus strat and tele models.

The player models work fine. They feel sturdy, have level frets, and sound like you'd expect. Fret ends are disappointingly sharp though. They seem like their average price should be $575 with sales down to $425 or so. After dialing my player strat/tele in, they're sticking around, but not because they're my best guitars. They're workhorse guitars, not premium guitars. They do the job, but don't make you feel like you got a truly good guitar. I'm currently working on modding/kitting out an Eart NK-C3. I suspect once I'm done dialing it in, it'll play better than my strat. The body shape is slightly different though, so IDK if it will fully replace my strat.

The player plus models are great on paper, but feel weird to play (the satin finish on the fretboard was kind of... sticky?) and BOTH of mine had issues with unlevel frets. The seal/finish/stain on their fretboards was sloppy too, coating the frets themselves. They felt LESS premium than the standard player series. I sold those within months.

Also, pretty much every Fender guitar I've owned has had a poorly cut nut that causes open string buzzing. It's not an easy fix, but I've learned how to replace/cut nuts so I can get past it. If you're not that savvy with setting up guitars... I can't recommend a Fender for that reason alone.

My Epiphone Les Paul I got used for under $400 feels WAY better than my Fender guitars ever have. It's a totally different kind of guitar, sure, but Fender is slacking so much that the nicer Squier models (NOT affinity or bullet) have caught up entirely to their MiM series.

The only guitar with Fender on the headstock that stood out to me was a Pro II with rosewood fretboard. That neck felt amazing. It inspired me to place an order for one of those necks to put it on one of my strats.

How many years back is "a few"? In 2008, you could buy an American Standard Telecaster or Stratocaster for $1000 ($1352 in 2022 dollars).
(source: https://web.archive.org/web/20080...dy_Guitars)

An infant born when those guitars were made is about to enter HIGH SCHOOL, lmao.

More egregious are the MIM guitars going from $400 in 2008 ($540 in 2022 dollars) to $850 list price today.
