I have and really like my FireTV Cube (Gen 2).

Keep in mind the Gen 3 just got released, with an HDMI IN/OUT port and some improvements like WIFI 6E etc. We should see the Gen 2 continue to stay pretty well discounted.

The real deal here is to trade in an old FTV device and get a $3 GC plus $24 off (20% off the original price of $120), making this under $40 after tax.

same issue here. I thought we'll get the 20% 1st then send our old trade in item
Yeah same boat. If you are near a Whole Foods or Amazon location that accepts trade in, they process it right away and the credit shows up same day. I'll probably do that as I have a very old fire stick laying around.

Got the instant trade in credit by trading in my old first gen fire stick, and oddly enough it was cheaper to get a new Cube then it was to get a recertified with all the trade in and lightning deal added in

Immediately.

Not everyone has instant credit applied. If you have recently done another trade in, or some other flag on your account, they will not offer you instant credit and instead on the trade in submission page will clearly state that the credit will be received AFTER they receive the trade and evaluate it.

It took a few weeks after trading an echo dot this summer for the Show5 deal in July before my account could receive instant credit on a fire stick trade.

See attached picture of final screen before clicking Submit that indicates whether or not you will receive instant credit vs having to wait for credit.
Thank you. So in my case, I will probably get the credit after they evaluate the trade-in.

The Nvidia shield is much better.

However other than UI preferences the only thing this cube is really missing out on is the ability to do lossless audio. Most people will just be streaming anyway so they won't have the need for lossless audio(bluray remux/rips)

I have had both and will get another one of these cubes for $37 after trade in. Other than having to toggle the hdr settings to get rid of the hdr bug it has when you start up, it's been great for me

So if a 20% trade-in credit is only given after a trade-in, does Amazon issue a credit to my Fire Cube purchase or give a credit that can only be used for other Fire products?

Nvidia Shield TV Pro is sort of the gold standard in streaming devices imo. Fire TV devices can't compete with it generally. It is at a different price point though as it usually goes for 160+.

Amazon is coming out with a 3rd Gen TV Cube later this month. but it is currently being pre-released on a waiting list and sold for $140...I can't speak to how it ranks vs nvidia. It does have an upgraded processor over the gen 2 and they finally added an ethernet port but stupidly it only will support 10/100 and not gigabit. You really have to wonder why Amazon is so idiotic with this as they seem to hate ethernet ports and now how much would it cost them to make it full gigabit in this day and age...an extra $1. People with home wired networks generally would rather use wired connections wherever possible.

Depends on your account standing. No apparent rhyme or reason. I have a non prime account that is being offered instant discount today (but obviously can't combine it with the cube deal since that is for prime only). A friends prime account had the offer a week ago for instant discount plus coupled with the lightning prime only deal on this cube.

For sure 2 things will affect getting an instant vs. delayed discount
1) You must have had the device associated with your account for a period of time. Not sure what that time is. I had added one in April and it appears to be valid for instant credit now.

2) You must not have just done a trade in on ANY device recently that is still being processed by them. They only give you the benefit of the doubt on one item at a time. If you send it and it's not as claimed (missing parts, damaged more than stated, not working) then they reserve the right to send it back, reclaim the discount, and prevent further instant discounts offered in the future.

There likely are some other unknown reasons why you do and do not get instant trade discount offers. I only have a prime account for 1 month out of every 6-18 months when they offer a free month; I last paid yearly for prime when it was still $79 a year vs $139 now. But I still seem to get all of the offers and only make 15-25 orders in < $25 items a year over the last 3-4 years.

No, you do not get a "refund" on a purchase if you have to wait for the credit. It is loaded into your account for a future purchase. I do not know if those have an expiration date though. I do know the $3 GC credit also given does have an expiration date.

That's why I have spread out old or unused echo or fire devices across my and a friends account so that we have an equal chance of redeeming trade in offers when they come up.

When you say new Cube, you are referring to the 2nd Gen version in this thread and not the pre-order for the Gen 3 correct? I pre-ordered the Gen 3 a few days ago and was able to use a coupon code for $40 off making it $100. I tried stacking a trade-in of old Fire TV but it did not work; unless I am missing anything?
