UPDATE:
3 month bonus appears to apply to *any* new activation, regardless of where and when you purchased pre-paid Mint Mobile card. I typically have 2 spare cards in my "go bag" and automatically qualified for bonus when activating during this promo window. I primarily use this for data, and buy new cards every 3 mos.
TIP: Easiest way to activate is to place new SIM in your phone. Dial any number, and it will kick over to an automated Mint Mobile activation line. Enter a zip code and will then activate and recite your new phone number (but often drops call before you hear the rest of it). Don't fret, they will text you the new number anyhow.
Text "6700" with the word "DATA" and it will confirm your plan and duration of service.Buy 3 months of Mint Mobile service, get 3 months free.

The vast majority of sim swap attacks were resulted from the Coinbase breach. People got a hold of a data dump of wallet values and the 2 factor phone number set against that wallet.
Many of those wallets were worth thousands (or more). The attackers would simply pay employees inside all carriers to swap sims, often paying hundreds or thousands if they would swap lucrative crypto wallet. They didnt call customer service and pretend to be you.
Since the attackers used inside employees there was no technological flag, training, policy, pin, notes, security setting, that would stop them, but the internet filled up with rumors and ideas all of which aren't effective in stopping these lucrative sim swaps.
The only effective way to protect from this is to remove the 2 factor phone number from your Crypto accounts (and your bank accounts).
Don't know which website you're referring to, but there's a banner at the top of the page on BB that says "Buy 3 months, get 3 free" and takes you to the following page https://www.bestbuy.com/site/prom...month-bogo
(I bought one mid-Nov (ordered on target.com for in-store pickup) and had service through May. Better for me as I get 5% with Target CC.)

The only downside is that by getting a new mint number every time, you may be subject to getting more spam calls. But you can maybe offset it by spending money on a spam blocker app.
However 4GB is fine. Depends on the acrrier because I swear Tracfone sucks up data at a faster rate.
