Some of this information has been presented in other threads, but I thought it would be useful to consolidate them in one place for those considering different models. From lowest to highest price:
Garmin Edge 1030 (refurbished)
$250 from GPS City [gpscity.com]
Garmin Edge 1030 Plus (new)
$450 from Bike Closet [bikecloset.com] (subject of a previous SD thread)
Note that while this is the best domestic price I am currently seeing on the 1030 Plus,
r2-bike in Germany is selling it for 332 Euro [r2-bike.com]. At the current EUR/USD exchange rate and counting shipping that works out to $375 shipped to the USA if you want to go that route.
If anybody finds better deals on these please update this thread.

*Trendline popularity routing uses billions of miles of Garmin Connect ride data
This is a great deal.

1040 and 1040 solar are out so they need to unload old models asap. 540 and 840 are overdue hence 530 "refurb" dropped in price.
No phones are not great for this purpose….yet. Hopefullly one day I can pop an Apple Watch or similar as head unit but until then these are great deals.

However, the GPS function is not comparable to a Garmin. It doesn't provide navigation while you're riding. The GPS info can be downloaded via app to your phone to record/analyze after your ride is completed.
It works really well and is a great deal - but serves a different purpose.
Worth it if you use the advanced features, if just the regular use stuff then save the extra few grams- also the touchscreen is nice
