Some of this information has been presented in other threads, but I thought it would be useful to consolidate them in one place for those considering different models. From lowest to highest price:

Garmin Edge 1030 (refurbished) $250 from GPS City [gpscity.com]

Garmin Edge 1030 Plus (new) $450 from Bike Closet [bikecloset.com] (subject of a previous SD thread)

Note that while this is the best domestic price I am currently seeing on the 1030 Plus, r2-bike in Germany is selling it for 332 Euro [r2-bike.com]. At the current EUR/USD exchange rate and counting shipping that works out to $375 shipped to the USA if you want to go that route.

If anybody finds better deals on these please update this thread.

I'm not in the market for this, but I appreciate the effort that you put into this post.
Tell me you're a cycling noob without telling me you're a noob.
Bought the 530 refurb on the last deal and I'm a big fan. It records my routes with more accuracy than my iphone, and it automatically syncs to strava and in turn trailforks. All i have to do is press a button and bam it's recording. Reduces the battery drain on my phone. After using it a couple times i can safely say i feel no need to have a touch screen. However that might be a different scenario if i was road biking in unfamiliar territory. This thing definitely does the job though.

Anyone have experience with refurbished units from GPS City? The 1030 at that price is very tempting.
Actually refurbished by Garmin according to the eBay site. It's just sold by GPS City. I've purchased a refurbished unit previously from them and it appeared new.

This is a great deal.

This is an aging model released in 2017. It's not bad by any means but it lacks in current technology and battery life. The 530 and 830 were released in 2019 with improvements made in those areas. If you like the big touchscreen and don't care about much else then this is a great unit. I prefer the 530 due to its size and longer battery life. Much of my riding is mountain biking with full finger gloves which don't work on touchscreen so I prefer the buttons

Why would anyone buy this when you can get. A cheap smartphone that does the same thing?
Simply put, a smartphone doesn't do the same thing. A cycling computer can handle ANT+ data streams and display cadence, HR and power data, can interact with radar sensors and bike headlights. Edge 1030 gets about 20 hours of battery life with the display on and visible. It's a specific device with a specific use case, for "serious" cyclists. If you don't need cadence and power for training, and your rides top out at an hour or two in duration, you should be happy that you don't need another device Smilie

You can get a cheap bike GPS that doesn't have navigation for $40 (but does sync with strava and has ant+) , I have this one and have used it for over 1100 miles with no issues

I can vouch for gpscity. My 530 refurb is from Garmin and I could not find any fault. It is brand new as far as I can tell. Not a scratch and no mark in the charging port either. I wouldn't be surprised if they are new.

1040 and 1040 solar are out so they need to unload old models asap. 540 and 840 are overdue hence 530 "refurb" dropped in price.

No phones are not great for this purpose….yet. Hopefullly one day I can pop an Apple Watch or similar as head unit but until then these are great deals.

I purchased the 530 edge refurb deal and I love it. So much better than just using my phone. I also purchased a stem mount for it and dont need an additional mount on my handlebars to use and looks clean Smilie.

Well dangit. Even though I have the 530 and it does everything I want, I ordered this one just for the larger screen. Maybe I can sell the 530 to a friend.

Why not just uh, buy a bike computer for less than a cheap smartphone? The edge 530 is only $150 refurbished with a warranty.

I didn't know these existed. Thank you. That's comically cheap to the point where it's worth buying them repeatedly instead of risking my $400 wahoo getting trashed on my mountain bike.

I have this same Coospo computer/GPS and really like it.

However, the GPS function is not comparable to a Garmin. It doesn't provide navigation while you're riding. The GPS info can be downloaded via app to your phone to record/analyze after your ride is completed.

It works really well and is a great deal - but serves a different purpose.

Can anyone vouch that the 1030 is worth the $100 price premium over the 530?

Worth it if you use the advanced features, if just the regular use stuff then save the extra few grams- also the touchscreen is nice

I appreciate the larger display of the 1030, allows MUCH easier visibility for multiple road cycling parameters. 530 is okay if you are okay flipping through screens, do not require real time access to lots of data.
Ditto. I have an 820, which is fine. but my aging eyes no longer work for near and far sighted viewing when I am wearing contact lenses. The larger screen of the 1030 makes it possible for me to read the screen while I am riding without putting on a pair of reading glasses.
