Walmart has the same thing for the same $682.40. Different model #s. The Walmart version comes with the cover, the Amazon does not. I asked on chat Champion if there's a difference and here's what they said: "They are the same unit, just different models depending on the retailer. The 201040 is also a newer model."

Here's the links on Champion:

So, this for $682 or a gas only Westinghouse for $458? What do you think?

3...2...1 someone is going to recommend a tiny gas only inverter as an alternative to this because of bigfoot, err THD, might hurt "sensitive electronics" according to a guy on reddit Wink

BTW. great price.

that's a different model number, this gen is a 100719.

i'd buy an open frame if i was doing that, the conversion kits with enclosed ones have to cut the enclosure and if you're hooking to natural gas you'll probably be permantly insntalled anyways . I know they say open frame inverters are much louder like a normal gen but at least with my wen 3800 vs champion open frame of similiar wattage even though 10db difference in specs i couldn't tell much difference at moderate load. Larger wattage may be more noticable
The post clearly shows this is 100891, right?

Tri-fuel conversions are available for $200, so if you ultimately want to convert to NG (or add that propane option) then you're in the same ball park by going with the WH.

You'll be behind $18 and the price of a propane hose of course. But if you're just looking for a very infrequent power outage coverage and don't care too much about a potential gas shortage such as during a hurricane, then the WH looks like the better option TBH. Don't know about the THD between the two, and certain dual-fuel generators do allow you to switch without shutting down as well.

Thanks for the link on the WH, seems like a great deal!

Edit: the Champions pictured do not let you switch between gasses without a shutdown, as the shutdown is right on the knob in-between the two fuel options (in case anyone ever wants to know what to look for)

Another thing to have during a power outage are good coolers. I have a few igloos that will keep ice for days.

A guy on my neighborhood Facebook page was trying to sell three new Champion generators that were warranties. What I got out of that was they have great customer service, but you're probably going to need the warranty.

So this cannot use the gas line that go into the house? Can only use with the BBQ gas tank? For dual fuel it is still a bit picky with the fuel.
Quote from congletonj :
Perhaps a dumb question, but could this be converted to use natural gas?

I was able to do that with my smoker and would be able to swap lines from smoker to generator easily if so.
Any propane generator can run on natural gas also, but you'll need to replace the gas regulator. On these simple devices, a small metal plate with holes in it act as a flow regulator. You can MAYBE get one from Champion but if not, you can make one out of a small piece of steel or aluminum. You could also add a two way valve and add a NG line effectively making it a three-three fuel generator.

Do NOT run natural gas through the propane flow restrictor.. It likely won't light but even if it does, it won't run right and MIGHT damage the engine.

Propane to NG conversion is nothing but a small piece of metal with holes in it. Are you sure it costs $200?

Don't forget that you should run on solar and battery lipo generator and that that these are old school *yawn*

I do know someone who had good quality customer service with champion so the warranties are legit not YMMV (assuming of course you're not one of the what is oil , run generator indoors ,etc that modern life has failed to naturally deselect) they also have service centers so check if there's one near you.
Can you elaborate a bit on the customer service? My fear with all these china brand generators is lack of support when needed. Reading the negative reviews where ppl suffer from lack of customer service to get replacement parts worries me. Makes me want to opt for a Generic or Firman brand from Costco for USA service and Costco's return policy if needed.

buddy bought couple champion open frame inverters and called customer service due to some issue , there's a service center here so he could drop it by or they could send a part, anyways he didn't have any problem dealing with them. You get a 3 year warranty, most Chinese gensets are 12 months, generator time wise that's nothing since typical home owner use is pretty low hours if for backup so 12 months is about as good as none. Frankly with number of people who probably put bad gas in them i'm sure that's 90% of the calls and problems or not following direction.

I stopped trusting negative reviews everything's got them, ..also world is too full of nuts due to our efficiency at preempting natural selection who's to tell who's right and wrong with reviews, and hell most youtube videos are sponsored crap anyways. if you go by negative reviews you'll never make a decision.

Alright you got me with the 3-year limited warranty. Pulled the trigger on the Walmart version which gives me easy store returns till Jan. 31, 2023 due to extended holiday return policies.

Also checked a reliable cash back website offering up to 4% cash back back on Walmart purchases + 5% cash back, also on Walmart purchases, from a well known CC (not sure if I'm allowed to call it out). So if these check out, that's 9% cash back going with the Walmart model, an extended easy store return option vs Amazon, and a free cover. Solid deal!
