This is a beast of almost 50 pounds with a pretty narrow gear range. It lacks proper gearing for doing real uphills. If you plan to use it for mountain biking, this isn't a good option at all. It's fine for dirt, sand, snow, and just putting around town. Pretty poor option for commuting though as it's very heavy and has high rolling resistance.
SMH, remember many years ago when Mongoose used to be one of the baddest-ass BMX bikes around.

What?? I ride the beaches often on my fat tire bike and there is no comparison with my 2 mt bikes (hardtail and fully, both Marin). Best you actually ride one before you embarrass yourself with posting nonsense. Fad? LOL...they have been around for 20+ years.
Not all beaches are the same. I rode on St. Augustine beach and the sand packed reasonably well and the entire ride was a joy, especially in the morning as the sun came up. But I wouldn't try to ride on Pensacola beach because the sand there is like powdered sugar. Awesome to lounge in but not for bikes. Even my beach cart with 8" wide wheels was being bogged down.

And then there's Tybee beach in Savannah. I think I can ride my road bike with 25 tires there. It's just a hard-packed dirt.

Go rent one at a beach and you will see they work well in the sand. I ride Tahoe area a lot and see fat tire bikes often. Damn forgiving on roots, baby heads, deep gravel. Fun for sure.
Most of the fat bikes up in Tahoe weigh half of what this bike does and have a low gear that is about twice as low. People would really struggle with this bike in Tahoe, unless they're just riding a few blocks to the store to get beer.

From your comment, I doubt you have ever ridden LT. So this bike weighs 46lbs and half of that is 23lbs of the weight you claim most fat bikes weigh there. Do point out a 23lb fat tire bike. Stick with facts and not toss out nonsense. Many of the bikes in the links below are the same Mongoose.

I had read a review stating that this was a 50lbs bike and there are many fat tire bikes that come in somewhere in the 20s, so yeah, about half the weight. A Specialized Fatboy can even come in under 20lbs.

And I'm not seeing this Mongoose in any of your links.

I wouldn't say a fad. But it's basically single purpose. You could go on a trail, or mud, or even on sand but the pavement most fat tire bikes are designed for is flat hard (paved, concrete or asphalt) surface and usually for no more than 10 miles. Because these bikes exist for one thing: comfort. The fat tires inflated to low PSI provide a cushion that even the softly suspensioned bikes can't match. And unlike suspension, the tires will not bottom out unless in a most extreme circumstance. So fat tire bikes are just another iteration of the beach cruisers, except with... fat tires. But with a more aggressive geometry and riding position, you can get a spirited riding on it from time to time. But the weight and the rolling resistance from the tires will make these a chore to ride in most climbs and over long distance.

If I lived in a relatively flat city with a lot of bike paths, I'd be tempted to get one, especially one that's paired with some kind of electric motor, but for now, I'd rather get a gravel or purpose-made touring bike for my n+1 bike.
I ride a fat bike with no suspension and it beats me up compared to my nice full suspension bike on the same trails. But at the price point of this bike, suspension systems barely work, so the fat tires just might make for a more comfortable ride.

Even at the $2300 price of my ariel rider x52v the tires give more cushion than the full suspension does.

Maybe so, but electric bikes with little wheels are in a totally different class.

I also have a fat ebike with 26" wheels, same thing.

Ebikes just aren't getting the best suspension components in general, even when you're paying 2-3x the price of something like a lectric xp..

Then back to my point. Fat tires may be better than cheap suspension, but good suspension surpasses them.

I wouldn't know, I've never had any bike that I could say had good suspension. I know they exist, at very high prices but I've always had other toys to buy and I am not into pedaling. One of these days it won't cost so insanely much for an ebike with good suspension.

Even people with sur ron ebikes are upgrading suspension but those don't look like harmless ticket avoiding ebikes like the x52. I bought the x52 because it doesn't look like a motorcycle and is kind of low key for what it is.
