I have these and love them, they are placed in lots of common areas.

Just a FYI these do not work on GFCI outlets used in bathroom and kitchen areas
I am very weary of running 110V electric to the front of my cover plate, if the plat cracks, can a kid get electrocuted to death… yes?

Sorta why the electricity is not at the cover plate and is protected behind a thick outlet.
I've been involved in many UL certifications as a manufacturer. They don't mean jack. You should never assume something is safe just because it is UL.

Those seem to have pretty questionable reviews

The ones sold on Groupon and woot look the same, as well as the description being used. If this is true, then be wary of what you get. People are complaining of getting blue or yellow LEDs and you can't tell which color led you get until you plug it in.

I'm taking the plunge anyway as if I don't like them I can always return them

Yes, I hate to be the guy that posts something 10x more expensive and says "why not this" but in this case, I would NOT play with an unlisted product touching my home outlet internals. This screams bad idea, and who needs 5? I would take a name brand, UL listed product and not worry about burning down my house or other nightmares.

If you want it installed, do something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/GE-Grounding-Receptacle-Resistant-40967/dp/B07KGH48VG?source=ps-sl-shoppingad... [amazon.com]

If you want it temporary do something like this:

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Sylvania-Automatic-LED-Night-Light-with-Integrated-Outlet-60802/30976268... [homedepot.com]

I agree, ul listing is no guarantee, I've worked for several manufacturers, and they often use prior certificates to validate new products or skirt the rules on certifications, but at least a ge product has a company you can sue if your house burns down, and at least they try to make certified products.

Agree with the post, except the who needs 5 part. I have an immediate spot for 4 of these. And can likely find a spot for a 5th or 6th if it came down to it.

Seriously. Who has just one outlet? That "who needs 5?" statement alone is enough to make me question their intelligence.
