The Amazon $185 (or $148 with Prime card) product you're speaking about is the X55 model, which is Not the same as the X60 that is the subject of this thread. Costco ($175) and Best Buy ($185, or $157.24 after 15% trade-in) have the X60. Although they seem similar, there Are some big differences...

X55 (has a black top):
Smilie 3 ethernet ports per node
Frown but can only do 4 concurrent streams
Frown only has 2 internal antennas per node

X60 (has a white top):
Frown only has 2 ethernet ports per node
Smilie can do 6 concurrent streams (vs. just 4)
Smilie has 4 internal antennas per node (vs. 2)
There is no subscription unless you want additional parental control features and antivirus features. It does require you create a TP-Link account and use their mobile app for setup of the product.
The Eero pro 6E is horrible reviewed and a hot mess so anything is better than that, except for the new google 6E mesh which is also a hot mess.

It will let you comfortably get an extra 100-150 mbps over wifi to some devices with proper settings. Give you some faster speeds in same room in general and if you dont plan on using ethernet backhaul will operate more flawlessly with wireless backhaul cause its triband. It still wont max out a 1Gbps line but it will be pretty consistent.

No, only option would be to create a guest network which runs off 2.4. Very few mesh systems lets you separate the bands since it defeats the purpose of the smart routing.

I was going to get the costco axe5300 for $270 but this is pbly more than enough expecially considering almost half the cost.
The best deal is from AMZN @185 - 20% cash back for prime card holders. If you don't have a prime card and have a trade in, best buy comes in a little cheaper than costco, if you want to go there and deal with a trade in, assuming they have it in stock. Otherwise the costco price is really good, amzn just came in a little cheaper and has free next day delivery for me.

Good catch!
I'm embarrassed to say I totally missed that.
Looks like Costco wins again.
I bought the x55 from AMZN $185 - 20% = $148. Not bad, but I pbly would have gotten the x60 from costco had I been paying attention.
That said, AMZN did free overnight shipping. I had it @9:30 am and had it up and runnung bt noon. I am happy to have the extra ports, I am using them. I have no idea how much better the 6 concurrent streams would be over the 4 concurrent streams I have. Either way, it blows away my old netgear ac1200 using an even older netgear router configured as an access point with a secondary ssid, which I wish tp-link supported.

Thx for the catch

I haven't been very happy with mine. I used the M5 for years with no issues, but these don't seem to work as well. My upload is super slow for example I got equal up and down speeds with my M5, but with this my down is around 600 and my up is like 200. They also don't switch well. I'll come downstairs and sit right next to a unit and still be connected to the one upstairs an hour later. I've tried everything to fix my issues.
I'm going to second this. My speeds are fine, but the stability is not good. I do a lot of moonlight game streaming on my local network. My previous custom mesh with the tp-link AC1750's and openwrt could stream 4k without problem. Now, I get frequent "slow connection" messages during a play session. Also, I notice buffering on streaming services where I didn't previously. A reboot seems to fix it, but that's a sorry solution.

Everything is connected via ethernet backhaul so I can only conclude that there is something off with the x60.

Also, note: TP-Link's troubleshooting suggests checking for channel interference, but the app won't let you change the channel. So, me and both of my neighbors are using channel 44 for our 5ghz routers. I guess TP-Link expects me to go ask them to change their wifi setup to help me reduce interference.

I ended up getting this from Best Buy for $157 after trading in an old router. I'm happy with the improvements over my previous setup.

I placed my main unit on the 1st floor. I placed another unit on the 2nd floor with just wireless backhaul. I was getting 500ish Mbps using ethernet port of the 2nd unit. It dropped to 400ish if I switched to Wifi. This was measured when copying a large file to a NAS wired to the main unit so it's independent of my internet speed.

Earlier I thought the 3rd unit would be redundant for my smallish place. However, I do gain performance in bedrooms on the other side of the 2nd floor if I put it somewhere between the bedrooms and the main unit.

Before getting this, I thought about getting the 2-pack AXE5400 from Amazon for $205 after coupon. However, I am satisfied with the current performance.
