I apologize in advance for my question that might be stupid but what's the reason people get streaming devices vs the smart tv that offer some of the streaming contents like Netflix? I am starting to learn about these things and also possibility in moving towards projector vs tv

Anyone else notice Netflix does not show the Dolby vision/atmos badge on the app with this?

Some streaming devices offer better performance than native TV apps. Smart TVs usually have weaker processing, slower internet connection, lack support for certain audio codecs, etc. Sometimes it's just a preference for UI (I've never seen a smart TV UI that I thought was good) or wanting features like an Apple TV being a HomeKit hub or other added features.

If you want Ethernet and don't need HDR10+, then this is the one to get. The newer models don't have Ethernet unless you get the 128GB model for $149, so for $80 this is almost $70 cheaper.

Thanks to Apple artificially limiting HDR10+ to the 3rd gen Apple TV 4K, I'll have to wait for that one to drop to around this level. The good thing is that should happen faster since the base prices were lowered this year

Tempting but I think I'll pay the additional for the 2022 model with Thread network support and USB-C charging on the remote.

Anyone going for the 64GB version? Switching over from the Roku and trying to decide. For those who have the 32GB, do you ever find that the storage isn't enough?

I'll try to explain my use case. I originally bought a Chromecast Ultra and Apple TV 4K for my Sony 3D 4K. I originally bought that TV in 2015, and everything was great until it received its final updates. The OS became unresponsive, and it's a chore to use. Without streaming devices, I'd have to use the TV for offline play so gaming consoles, DVD/Blu-Ray player etc.

I would use either device with a newer TV if I didn't like the operating system or if the TV didn't support most streaming apps. If you're already invested in the Apple Ecosystem, the obvious choice would be to use an Apple TV for AirPlay and viewing/listening to your purchases.

Lastly some TV's remove apps over time. Some older TVs (maybe Hisense) dropped support for Hulu. You won't have to worry about that with the Apple TV. I hope this post helps.
