WD has numerous variations and revisions [westerndigital.com] of these drives, some of which were renamed and/or discontinued after the RPM drama [arstechnica.com] came to light a few years ago. The pictures on BestBuy's product page show a model of WD80EFAX, which was replaced by WD80EFBX two years ago. The WD80EFBX (256MB) was itself discontinued earlier this year and has since been superseded by the WD80EFZZ, which is the 128MB version you see on Amazon. Assuming BestBuy is actually shipping BX's (I wouldn't be surprised to hear reports of people receiving ZZ's), it means you are likely getting older stock which they are still in the process of offloading, same as the official WD store. A quick check of the manufacturing date on the drive's label should give you an indication.
Depending on your particular usage scenario and preferences, the newer version being sold by the likes of Amazon, BH, and NewEgg may actually be the better choice. That 7200 RPM comes at a cost of higher energy consumption, heat, and noise, which, for some, can be a big deal when you start throwing multiples of them into an array. As odd as it may seem, there's a reason people flipped out when the news broke that Reds were operating at faster than advertised speeds.
Better is subjective, especially when dealing with NAS drives. See above.
Well ok. Count me in!

You make it look like ther is a 10TB for $99 it is just clickbait and if it contimues Slickdeals will be a place I stop visiting!!! Already 30 of the deals are YMMV where one store in the entire country clearanced out one product and someone puts it up here and another 20 percent are for specific stores that have only 1 or 2 stores in the U.S. It is just getting tireing!
The sad thing is to date we have not seen a deal on a good 8TB drive for $99, not even Easystores. Maybe if you could stack CB deals or something this was achievable but even then feels like a stretch.

Nice find! And can pick up if you like so less likely to be damaged in shipping, plus returns through mid-Jan. Don't even need to shuck, get full warranty. Nicely done

Thoughts?
Only the 14 TB at $210 ($15/TB) is good value here.
