several of the reviews indicate and show with pictures that the case is fragile and breaks easily.

also, several reviews say that the write speed is rather slow.

Avoid. From personal experience, a truly bad product. Connector shattered in my laptop USB port (common problem) and a PITA to remove. Would not even consider using in USB port of car. Runs very hot and very erratic performance...after about 2 minutes of file xfer, it will throttle down and begin pausing while waiting for device to cool down. Once resumes, runs another 10-12 seconds before shutting down again.

If you want this form factor, buy the Samsung version. Much better than Sandisk.

I had 2 sandisk and 1 samsung failed on me while using them in my car for music. All of them are small form factor, I guess these small form factors are not intended for continuous use, hence the failure rate. If only transferring between devices, these will work. I went back to thumb sized for use with my car now.

No problems with my Samsung (yet) but I use these sparingly now after upgrading to new laptop with more storage. Even if both are more prone to fail, I would still choose the Samsung:
1) Better construction. The Samsung's metal connector vs the SanDisk plastic. It is a real annoyance to have to dig the SanDisk shards out of a USB port. It would be even worse on my car which has a USB port inside the center console. An unnecessary risk to damaging the USB port which would be difficult to repair.
2) Performance. The SanDisk will overheat quickly and start to throttle down to a crawl during file transfers making it useless for managing large files. My Samsung does not have this problem.

Saying all that, these ultra small drives may simply fail faster, especially in the larger capacity, due to the physical compromises necessary for the miniaturization. This contradicts the manufacturer's positioning that these are "plug 'n stay" devices.

I had the Samsung version. It runs hot, the cap comes completely off, and the data corrupted in under a year. I've had better luck with Samsung Bar and every HP Drive I've ever used.

Excellent price.

Great reviews (4.7/5) from 112,261 buyers who took the time to comment. Probably 5X that number didn't bother to review but were just content with the product.

I still preferred the $25 Samsung Fit for its better material construction and its much faster (up to 400MB/s) read speed (compared to 130MB/s). Some Samsung mini and micro thumbs get hot by design. They pull the heat out via the outer casing (which is sometimes metal). Much better than trapping it inside, with cool plastic parts. Plus, those Samsungs that I'm referring to have crazy writes speeds of 300-400MB/s.

Still, I'd feel very safe purchasing this product. If there were a strong history of massive failures over time, it would shop up with much greater frequency in the 112,000+ reviews.

For the SanDisk version, I'd store passive (with backups) data and media however. I wouldn't use it for continuous read/writes (i.e. exteneded memory).

1/2TB for $38 too. Tempting.

As everyone else mentioned this would be great if it didn't overheat, thing is junk.. I have to put a fan on it because it's my only usb stick with capacity at the moment to backup a good amount of data.. I suppose if you put it on a dongle and kept a fan on it, it works.. but that's just dumb. The metal samsung sticks are what I am using now and they have been great.
