In for one! Thanks, OP. Fantastic deal.

I just bought a 65U6GR about a week ago (for $500). Returning that TV and buying this one. Paying the extra $112 for better overall picture quality, 120hz panel, better motion handling, HDMI 2.1, and better local dimming (the U6GR was actually very impressive, so I am excited for this U8G) was a no brainer.

These are going to sell out quick!

Rtings does shows U8H surpassing U8G in all areas. I just don't think for me the $300 difference justifies it, also U8H isn't readily available to buy right now, and I want a good TV now.

I was initially gunning for the TCL R646, but after reading this comparison
https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/c...shold=0.10

U8G is definitely a good buy for me at this price point.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQAWNM9Lt34 a comparison of U8G and U8H, which isn't too much difference for the average viewer.
He also did a review about comparing U8H and LG C1, which he gave a tie.

For my purposes this TV is good enough. Newer buy would have to be a big upgrade.

Also curious as to how others are feeling about this deal.

Beats prior FP deals on this TV, but the key difference since then (IMO) is that the Hisense U8H has started to come down in price. Not sure that's worth the ~$300 premium over this--or if there's the belief we might see better deals on the U8H soon.

Agreed all around.

Since no one else was chiming in and I was happy enough with the Rtings scores (and saving $300), I decided to pull the trigger.

Thanks for the find and repped! If past and current deals are any indication, this seems FP worthy. Too bad it somehow got relegated to this forum and labeled dead.

Hey no problem, my only worry was that it's from Newegg. Might have been my fault it's dead? First time I ever posted anything 😅

Ever since I posted this, it made it to top 10 best selling LED TVs on Newegg LMAO

The picture looks like the 9G version, is this right?

The 9G is better, the blacks are just better to see btw. that's the one I have and I compared in person with the 8G.

This tv has a good picture. I bought from bb when it was about 600. I ended up taking it back though.

Mine had light bleed, the arc hdmi kept messing up my receiver, and the nail in the coffin: the ridiculous motion blur/skipping while watching sports. It was like the processor couldn't handle it. A friend told me not to buy it as he has one. He actually just texted me and said he bought an nvidia shield and it fixed processing part in 4k. Not sure about the motion blur though.

U8G (2021 model) & U8H (2022 model) use the same SoC (system on a chip) to power them, apparently due to the global chip shortage. The U8H does have an upgraded miniLED panel, but the rtings review scores are not even half a point apart (& the issues they do have are present on both models).

This is supposed to get an upgraded SoC next year that solves a lot of the problems that these have with advanced gaming, motion, etc.

If you're cool with gaming at 60hz & don't mind some other minor nagging issues, U8G is a great set at anything under $1000, let alone $600. If you haven't used better (OLED) & are coming from a few years or more old model, it will blow you away in spite of the flaws.

I would have some concern about ensuring that what you are buying is new & not used, because I know a lot of people returned these for issues that were later fixed in a firmware update…

There's no light bleed when local dimming is enabled & you don't crank the backlight all the way up to 100 in SDR. I dealt with the same issue in the beginning & eventually figured it out. The backlight can be 100 in HDR, but in SDR it's best leave it below 85 & brightness below 45.

Also yeah you have to turn on motion processing for football, otherwise the ball flickers when it is passed. The motion preset "smooth" smoothes that out.

When I bought mine a year ago it was a good deal at $1000, because an LG C1 was $1600-1700. If I had to buy one now, I'd spend $1300 on the OLED & maybe use this one in a bedroom at $600.

If you have the H9g or u8g, go to YouTuber QuantumTV and check out his settings for either tv. people guess if my H9g is OLED. The u8g is arguably pretty much the same as an h9g, the u8h is better as $300 more but it's so so so so bright .

Good points. I just got sick of trying to change it and figure it out. My friend said the nvidia shield fixed everything and even the motion blur. But i am with you, I may bite the bullet and just buy the samsung oled.

I have the 65U8G and it has 2 HDMI ports that do 120hz and it looks great on my PS5 and XBX
