Ok, so I figured either way I would personally use it. So I went ahead and bought and activated license. Here's my experience so far using my new lifetime account across 3 devices (Pixel 7 Pro - me; Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra - me; Pixel 7 - wife):

- Login is done by email/password, as you'd expect these days.
- I am unable to login with multiple devices at once. Basically, if the app is open on one device, you can't open it on another. And here's where it gets a little annoying...
- If you attempt to open the app on a device that has already been logged in, but it detects another currently open session, it'll entirely log you out. You need to log in on that device again.
- Downloading lessons for offline usage lasts 30 days. So you CAN use offline, but in practicality it won't help much with having multiple concurrent sessions going. I mean you could get creative and probably do some traffic sniffing and host-based traffic blocking from the device with the offline lessons saved, but that's totally not worth the hassle!
- Also in practicality, I don't think, at least for a single user as intended, the whole logging off thing will be an issue. If I'm using it on my phone and then decide to switch to using it on my tablet, I will have likely by then turned off the screen or taken the app off the foreground.
- I even tested as far as opening on my phone, switching apps (RS no longer foreground app), opening on tablet and it worked fine, then on phone switching back (recent apps, switch to last app) to RS, and then it booted me back to the login screen. Tablet session stayed active and logged in. Essentially same thing happened when I kept the app open as foreground app on device 1, and simply shut off the screen instead. It worked fine on device 2.
- (edit) While I think this last one is obvious, it saves progress via cloud, so obviously logging in on a different device will have the progress carried over.

********
TL;DR - CAN'T HAVE MORE THAN 1 ACTIVE SESSION AT A TIME. Thus not very practical for multi-user usage, unless you will be almost always using at different times AND studying different languages (or are okay with lesson plans progress getting janky and mixed if studying same language, it's basically just like @lucassdad speculated).
********

Even with these caveats, I'll probably just stick with 1 license. I just saved the random generated password for my RS account on my wife's password manager, so if it ever gets logged out she can easily log back in. We likely won't be studying the same language during a given timeframe, nor using the app at the same exact time, anyway. It says the sale is still good for a few days, so we'll see.

Hopefully this clarifies any thoughts or questions for people who had the same ideas of multi user usage as me hahaha 😵 💫
Use Code "LEARN10NOW" to bring price down to $119.20 for an even slicker deal.
Ah! If only I waited. I paid $179 earlier this year and found it (personally) worth it then. As a visual learner, I found this to be more helpful for me than other language learning apps (Duolingo, Memrise, and some others). Note that the "live" classes etc is an add-on and not included in the lifetime sub.

Reminds me of "Ingles sin Barreras" . Their commercials were all over Sat and Sun mornings on Spanish stations. I believe they were asking for $2,000 for their Books and CDs.

Then came the competition. $99 including the DVD or CD player LOL !!

Couldn't quite get it for $104, but got it for $111 through Groupon with their current 25% off coupon. Good deal, hope my daughter actually uses it!

Anyone used stackskills? Sounds terrible from what I've seen, certainly inexpensive, but aim thinking probably more worth 300$ to get a year of Coursera+.

Rosetta Stone may be worth the $$ alone tho.
I picked up a StackSkills lifetime license a few years ago and have been impressed with the majority of course modules I've used ranging from web dev to business leadership and marketing project management. Access to Eazl courses alone was worth the leap. Some courses are better produced than others, for sure, but none of the content has been subpar by any means.

Be aware that the Groupon offer does not offer the StackSkills lifetime membership. I blindly went for the cheaper Groupon deal but it ONLY GIVES YOU ROSETTA STONE. Still, I think a lifetime membership for 24 languages is a great deal.

I have no input on Rosetta Stone but I purchased a lifetime access to stack skills a few years ago for $40-50 and it was a complete waste. All of the courses are dated and any new ones aren't included.

It's like if Netflix only gave you access to Steven Seagal movies and you had to pay for the rest. For some it might be great, but for most everyone else it's a waste.

Can you explain how language is outdated? DId French all of a sudden change the definitions of it's language? If I say "je ne sais quoi" Am I insulting thier mom now?

it's funny how a $500 per language, nonupgradable, nontransferable; monopoly is now trying to survive.

back when they had an opportunity to focus on long-term goals they focused on profits. $500 per language invited competition that now is going to take them down for good. Babbel was giving away all their languages for $100, and Duoligo is just fee. welcome to the real world RS.

another Blockbuster Video moment

I would agree with you except Blockbuster had nothing to keep them alive. Rosetta thrives in the education and government sectors... for now.

yep, it's days are numbered, it was innovative when it first came out, but for many years now it has been a stale product and now it is running behind it's competition. US government is a small fraction of the world market, Duolingos constant innovation and improvements will eventually (if not already) render RS as an expensive, boring and outdated application that is too expensive for edu and gov.

i had all 3 at one point (RS, Duo, Babel), i find myself gravitating towards Duo all the time, the other two make me feel inadequate, frustrated and bored. the forum feature in Duo is magnificent, and the gamification is very helpful in motivation (perfect for today's edu). learning a language is a chore for most people, Duo had made it less of a chore and i can see their constant improvement. RS and Babel is for folks who NEED or really want to learn, they can overcome the frustration points and keep going, but must folks would just quit.

Repped. Thanks for the breakdown. I'm torn on this deal since I've used rosetta and it has helped me with some language skill, but I also experienced what you're describing. Your post is pushing me to try Duo.

That's another difference too. Duo is free, you can play with it to your hears content. You can also pay to get more advance lessons and no ads.

Groupon reviews show people complaining about getting access to only one language, contrary to the description. Can anyone confirm if that's still the case?

Paid for this on stacksocial, Unable to redeem product. Went to redemption link provided and was told that activation code would be given automatically. It was blank. instructions said to copy activation code from link into Rosetta's Activation page. Jokes on me... link does not show activation Code... Will be calling up my credit card company for a chargeback... Stick with Groupon for less hassle... Plus Stacksocial has bots for customer support. I am so angry right now.

Edit: Someone from StackSocial emailed me and made it right....

Anki + a good deck would be a lot better and cheaper than this imo. Also it's extremely important to practice with a native speaker.
