Did owners of the S5 cross shop against the Sony A7 III? I've read about the pros and cons for both, but I'm not sure how that translates into real world experience.

For reference, I currently own the first gen Canon 5D. I was hoping to use an adapter to allow use of my 24-70 and 70-200 Can on EF lenses. And I have a number of manual focus lenses, like Contax C/Y mount, Leica R mount, as well as Olympus OM, Nikon F, and Contax G.

Anybody here know of a good resource/link to research on good point and shoot camera that is similar to a cell phone style (no adjusting of exposure/focus/etc etc) but with much better quality? Is that a thing?

Trying to find a gift, but we are not going to figure out all the features / setup /etc. End-use would be taking photos of outdoor mostly, flowers, nature, and getting a good enough picture to do a nice 11x17 canvas/print and not look grainy.

Alternatively, is this particular camera noob friendly (i.e. is there an "Automatic" mode that doesn't take any real adjustment/expertise?)

Just about every, if not all, digital cameras nowadays has an auto mode for you to be able to point and shoot and take good pics without worrying.

Take a look at Fujifilm cameras. The X-T30 has interchangeable lenses an "auto" switch that turns it into a very manageable point and shoot. Fujis have film simulation modes that give you the ability to take photos that mimic film styles straight out of camera. They're very user-friendly for people that want a unique look without needing to photoshop.

the open gate 3:2 sensor shooting on this is so appealing to screw around with

edit: oh thats S1H, this has a sort of 4:3 almost open gate

This is an incredible camera if you spend the time to learn how to use it properly. I paid a little bit more for the same exact deal and have zero regrets. It is a great stills and video camera.
Do you know of a good guide for a better understanding of how to use this camera?

Wrong, dead Wrong. Check the bundle with the lenses. You need to pay attention a little more.
I see the bag but I can't figure out where to find the free SD card. Could you help?

Do you do video or photo primarily?

For video, there's not much comparison. Better autofocus will exist on Sony. But beyond that, this camera should be better. 4k/60p exist, better color in the codecs (4:2:2), more settings for video, and lots of little features.

I use a lot of manual lenses with mine for video and actually love the fotodiox adapter to canon that has the built in variable nd.

I primarily do still photos. I still haven't quite grasped the video aesthetic to produce videos that don't suck, unfortunately.

How's manual focusing for video on the S5? Are focusing aids (like focus peaking) adequate? Do you use a gimbal for video?

Thanks for your help. Wasn't expecting to run into a manual lenses here on SD!

For video, yes, it has focus peaking, zebras, and all around a pretty good monitor to look at. although for the past year, I've got use to having a monitor attached that makes the experience even better to dial in focus.

I don't use a gimbal a ton because the in body image stabilization is so good on this camera. Shooting handheld with a prime 85 lens for video is very manageable. A camera without that feature makes it impossible because you get a ton of micro jitters from just holding it.

If you're photo only, I'd probably have a harder time deciding what camera to buy. I bought them for a video camera first and for $1500, there's nothing out there that can compete.

How is this compared to Canon EOS R5?

PS: I am very new to photography, and someone recommended me the EOS R5, but it's darn expensive!

I believed free SD card was removed. Only camera, lens and bag at B&H now.

The L mount lenses are pretty expensive - how well do adapters work on this? I've read that the autofocus won't work through an adapter, but it may be worthwhile for buying less expensive lenses anyway.

I picked up a 35mm pancake lens for mine and it's fun except that manual focus is tough with the size viewfinder screen on it.

Got this same deal for I believe 1800 last year. The image stabilization on handheld is unbelievable. For what I do it more than makes up for the lack of the top tier video autofocus (although it is passable). Image quality is phenomenal for both photos and videos. The 85mm is still my favorite after picking up a 50 as well. I don't think you can go wrong with this camera at this price.

I think EOS R5 compares with Sony Alpha 1 and this one probably compares with Sony alpha III. I maybe wrong but that's what I read.
