This is an AMAZING price. I paid $950 for this and it was worth it. Powers my entire 1200 sq foot ranch, except for the central AC. Runs 12 hours on a full tank, very quiet especially when the draw is lower, and all my sensitive electronics hum along without any issues. I paid an electrician $500 to install an interlock, and with one flick of a switch, it powers the entire panel. I do wish this smaller model had the electric start, but it usually starts after 2-3 pulls .Its important to run it monthly under load and also use fresh gas

Tell me more. So this can be whole house wired? Power goes out I can just start it to keep everything going minus the big stuff? I mainly want to keep fridge and two deep freezers alive but don't want to fool around with extension cords.

Thanks, OP. Very helpful and timely post! The deal is still alive. In for one for peace of mind when the grid goes down. Will hopefully run a fridge, small medical equipment, and some portable heaters. Will cook on a little portable butane burner. Already have some 12/3 extension cords, and will snake power in from outside under a closed garage door. Will monitor garage and house for carbon monoxide. Hopefully the noise won't be dreadful to us and neighbors when the time comes.... Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to All!

Great price. I paid $750 for this last May and haven't even taken it out of the box. Fmlโ€ฆ
You really ought to get it setup. Good advice is to let it run about once a month.

I prefer the 6250W one. But from the comments, it seems like this is a rare discount. Is the 4250w one still considered an excellent deal?

Yes, that's exactly what I was looking to do and an interlock is the way to go. You basically add a dedicated circuit in your breaker panel that goes to an RV plug mounted outside your house. The interlock allows your to shut off the main panel breaker to disconnect from the grid. Then using a heavy duty cable, your generator feeds power into your house without the danger (and crime) of backfeeding power into the grid.

You just keep the circuits operational in the panel that you want to keep powered by the generator.

If you search on Youtube for "generator interlock" you'll get a lot of good videos on the pro/con and how to install them if you are so inclined. I paid someone to install mine and it's worked very well the one time so far I've had to really use it.

It's not as automatic as the Generac type standby generators, but all in it was about 1/10 the price.

Is there a way to reliably know how much power you need for certain things? Every guide I read has wildly different numbers. Some say a fridge takes 1kW, others up to 6. A/C - everything from 12 to 30kW. Furnace - 2 to 10kW.

The cost differential on either end of the ranges is gigantic.
This won't help with anything running 240v like your A/C and electric oven, but for anything on a normal 120v circuit, this worked well for me:

https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B08LN3C7WK?ref=nb_sb_ss_w_as-reorder-t1_ypp_rep_k0_1_6&amp=&crid=19MP78B... [amazon.com]

I'm already invested in other KASA switches and plugs and picked this up one time on a lightning deal. Moved it around to different appliances and computers and was able to track usage through the app and build a "map" of my power requirements.

I was actually surprised how little some things like my fridge were actually using. Modern appliances look to be a lot more power efficient.

Disagree. These are completely different units. The inverter capabilities on this make it head and shoulders a far better item with sensitive electronics. In this case, it isn't simply a comparison of wattage vs cost.

I don't have this exact unit but do have a Champion generator, which we use as power backup. My electrician recommended Champion and I bought the same model he currently uses at his house. We may lose power a couple of times over the course of 10 years so no need for a Generac. I pull mine out of the shed twice a year and run it for 10ish minutes. Starts on the first couple of pulls everything. Would definitely recommend this brand.

Just curious, but what is the reason to run it monthly? I drain the tank and carb and store it for years at a time without issue (so far). Am I overlooking something?

Because if it doesn't start, you want to fix it when you have power, not when you need power. Dumbest problem I had with a gas motor was on a predator engine, the fuel on/off switch had a tiny piece of gasket fall off and clog a tiny hole. So no fuel.

Same, no issues doing this for over a decade. Drain gas, change oil after the power outage, store it. Who the heck has the time to fire up a generator monthly.

You know you're getting old when you're doom scrolling an ad site, see a feature on a product you have no interest in and think "bah, just another part to break and deliberately cause the entire machine to stop working"

Everyone asking why you want to run a genny every month has never had to fix one while the entire family complains about what's the point of having this damn thing if it doesn't even work when we need it. I mean, I've never been there. But I've worked on many an RV generator that hasn't been run in years. Parts are insanely costly and cleaning every micro port without an ultra sonic cleaner... Forget it.
