This is a pretty good price for the amount of ram and ssd. as well as 4c/8thread performance. It also has two TB ports.

Sad that it has no ram slots. If you want two ram slots for your 2in1, check out the 5300 or 5310 on ebay for not much more or even same price for the 5300 2in1.

Got one from the previous deal.. Other than having Dell replace the battery ( was an easy process ) its been a great basic laptop! !
I would definitely recommend everyone review the checklist in an older thread for these 7390. About the most common issue will be battery since they're not normally replaced as part of the refurbishment. Most of these laptops likely lived as desktop replacements plugged into AC power all day, but BIOS settings protecting the battery are rarely implemented (the checklist referenced above highlights how users might do this for themselves going forward).

Good luck!

I have been watching the notifications regarding laptop deals. I am trying to keep within a budget of no more than $350 at most. I need a laptop with camera and microphone so I can do zoom meetings. I would also like a numeric keypad with back lit keyboard and a 14" (minimum) screen. I am not tech savy, but would like to take advantage of the 31% off on the refurbished models. I was going to buy this one, but see that the only one available now is not such a good computer. Any suggestions and/or advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you!!

Out of stock. The website for some reason will show them in-stock, till you try to add them to cart, then it disappears.

In part this tends to be a function of the Dell refurbished site. For those who are interested, consider that stock may indeed disappear and reappear over hours/days depending upon the popularity of any given deal and the amount of inventory coming in from their third party refurbishers.

To clarify that last point, consider that most of these devices appear to be refurbished not by Dell directly but rather by the original lessor as part of their lease agreement to Dell's specifications. As a result, these often come labeled as "refurbished by FedEx" or something similar.

Good luck!

At $200 even this laptop configuration with "only" 8GB of RAM is a solid option for productivity applications such as video conferencing. However, at your stated budget you *might* still find a deal on a touchscreen laptop with a 4-core i-series CPU (like the one in this deal) that *also* has expandable RAM. In fact, such an option may be available on the Dell refurbished site under a different model which also qualifies for the holiday discount code.

Do consider that part of the value of these Dell enterprise systems is their documentation and serviceability relative to commodity retail laptops. There's not universally something wrong with all cheap retail laptop deals, but part of the value in these old Dell refurbished buys is for DIY-ers who have an interest in maintaining them or otherwise value the build quality.

Good luck!

All the 2-in-1 Dell Latitudes have soldered RAM. Not to say it's not upgradeable. It's just harder. There are companies that desolder and solder on more RAM and add the necessary resisters on the board to support the higher RAM. The same goes for soldered-on SSDs like the Macbooks but yea, getting a new laptop ends up being the cheaper route. Cheaper for you, profitable for them.

The laptop versions have upgradeable RAM slots. On one hand people are clamoring for thinner laptops and the other hand was balking at soldered RAM. Dell's CAMM resolves this but still got a lot of pushback.

I did get a 7400 2-in-1 when they had their 40% off last month. "A" grade was extremely excellent. Other than really small scratches around the ports it was brand new with the battery at excellent health. They don't say they replace batteries with new ones like Apple does though. They just say they test.

Why people that copy large data to their local drive shouldn't get a MacBook or laptop w/ soldered SSDs:

It's good to know this about the 2-in-1 Dell Latitudes

It may be possible to remove soldered RAM, but wouldn't make sense to buy a computer planning on doing this. The process may not always work or could damage the computer, and if you don't do it yourself, you'll have to pay someone else. If someone already has one of these computers, then sure, they could try this.

Safer to just find a computer with the RAM you need, or buy a computer where increasing RAM is easier.

Could you go into detail here? Mine has a rough battery.. it will go from ~60% to dead with any load put on it.
go to cmd and do powercfg /batteryreport to see what is the status of your battery according to windows. These originally comes with 60Whr battery. If it's less than 50 on yours, I would email dell back and claim that it doesn't run for more than 90 min on battery . That is their criteria to send you another battery. The replacement batteries they sent me are obviously not new but they are all at least 55Whr. I had gotten about 3 new replacement batteries.

Not true at all! There is the dell 5300 and 5310 2in1 which do have TWO sodimm slots to let you upgrade up to 64GB ram! Sadly the 7390 2in1 doesn't come with any sodimm slots but that doesn't mean there aren't any other 13in 2in1 without sodimm slots Wink

Also the 5300 and 5310 laptop version do have TWO sodimm slots also. The 7390 laoptop ver only have one sodimm slot so you can only go up to 32GB ram

If I were you and need ram upgrade more than anything else, i would go for 5300 and 5310. They are avail on ebay for $250 or less.

the 7390 2in1 with 16GB and 512GB ssd is very good priced at $192 as long as you don't need to upgrade the ram.

It is very rare to see 13in laptop with sodimms slots. The only other one i know is lenovo thinkpad 13, the older models that only has the 7th gen cpu.

I know full well that CPUs have been more than fast enough for most people's needs for years now, in addition to Intel chips barely progressing for what felt like an entire decade. Still, in 2023, buying a refurbished laptop (or SFF like in the other deal) with a processor that came out in 2017, just strikes me as a bad idea, no matter the price. I doubt Dell replaced the batteries or reapplied the thermal paste, besides components just naturally failing after this many years
Very fair points! I felt the same way and use dell outlet business, the higher ends Latitudes (like the 7390) come with 3 year warranties.

I got mine 4 years ago for around $400 from dell outlet. Had a core i3 processor.

For $200, this is a solid price. For me, I love LOVE the latitude keyboards, have been using them for the past 10-12 years.

7490 are 14in, not 13in laptop so they are a bit bigger.

with the 35dell7490 35% off you can get a 7490 for $220, not a bad price considering it has two sodimm slots.

but if you can do with 16GB ram and no plan to ever upgrade ram, then the 16GB, 512GB 7390 2in1 is a better deal.

While arguably anyone might benefit from a device intended for a long service life - enterprise devices are typically designed to survive a lease period, whereas a lot of retail devices are basically disposable e-waste from day 1 (plenty of low-end, Gateway-branded laptops have this reputation, for example).

However, if you're never going to crack the device open *and* you're shopping reputable brands (so avoiding those Gateway laptops I mentioned earlier) you might not value serviceability as highly.

Good luck!

FYI an interesting thing about this model is that the WWAN slot can be used as a 2nd m2/nvme ssd slot (the shorter 2230 length though)
Fortunately devices like Microsoft's Surface line and the Steam Deck are both popularizing the smaller form factor.

Good luck!
