Is it really that expensive to put in a 16gb ram stick.... So annoying
Open Box Excellent is available for 469, and Excellent-Certified is 479.

Great screen, but man, that 8 GB of RAM just gimps what this could be.

For someone that plans to do very light use, this may be OK. But for any daily user that will be down a fair bit of web browsing, having multiple tabs open, this is a hard pass due to the limited amount of soldered RAM.
The screen is literally as good as it gets, whether you pay $500 or $5000

Got this for $500 last May or something, still going strong and my kid takes it to school and games on it almost daily (Roblox mostly).

I am also very happy with the laptop.

My only recommendation - replace the standard (crappy) 256GB SSD with something really good, like Samsung Pro. Nice SSD will compensate for low memory.

Got a Excellent one for 459 but it had a small scratch on the screen so I returned it. Will wait for 500 price new or the new version that will be getting announced tomorrow at CES most likely.

Did a quick walk by of the best buy display model today and the unit looks really really nice, but I was concerned about the fan running a little warm basically just running nothing but the Best Buy display stuff.

I have one of these. It does get warm, but with moderate use I can leave it in whisper mode so I don't notice the fan at all and it doesn't get overly hot.

Overall I'm really happy with it. The screen is outstanding

The other thread someone linked to said you can't upgrade or replace the ram. I'm not sure on the specs, but I imagine it's possible the ram is soldered and that the motherboard doesn't have an open ram slot to even add more memory

That's what the person was referring to. It's annoying that ASUS won't put a 16GB stick of RAM in instead of an 8 GB stick.

Oh I'm sure it's sodered. I'm wondering why the OEMs don't do it

I agree. I have a 9 year old Asus still going strong, I upgraded the memory to 8 GB. I have another reasonably new laptop with 16 GB. I would not invest in a new laptop without the 16 GB if plan to use it for a while.

Exactly, would be fantastic if it had 16gb, and sufficient with 12gb. But with just 8gb it's like putting Walmart tires on a Ferrari. Looks like a fantastic laptop otherwise for the price.
