Open box (for my area) is "Excellent condition" for $439.99
A slightly better deal. I got this deal awhile back when it was either $500 or $550. Either way, great laptop. Ram can NOT be upgraded. But you can replace the single 4.0 drive.
If that is shocking to you, I guess you've never looked at any Apple MacBooks (twice the price of this, and not upgradable anything).

Does the laptop struggle at all with just the 8gb of ram? I really only need for MS office, web browsing, and streaming.

I ended up returning mine. Beautiful display but the fans kicked in with no programs running--this runs very warm. I was able to record 1080p on OBS and it barely used any CPU. External 4K display support was glitchy but I didn't keep it long enough to put it through any extreme tests. For your needs, it should be just fine so long as you keep it off your lap.

I bought this last year from BB( same price ). Beautiful display, runs cool, no problems. But I use it for simple tasks, streaming YT, web browsing, nothing heavy duty. I would buy it again....

is a fast affordable NVME upgrade enough to offset the small amount of RAM (8GB) on this laptop? I heard modern NVMEs are fast enough to be used as RAM with little impact to performance.

As others have said, this is a very nice, compact laptop.

I would avoid buying asus laptop from bestbuy. all warranty concerns has to go thru bestbuy. Asus offers one year ADP on most laptops except ones sold at bestbuy.

shhh you'll wake up the ram nazis that declare 8gb is not enough for their millions of chrome tabs.
For the price, 8gb should be expected with the display being as good as it is.

That said, I bought an Asus laptop with 8gb of RAM...in 2012. Since then, the processor has vastly improved; the SSD has doubled; the screen resolution went from FHD to 2.8K; and the memory is...the same size. Yes, it's faster and more efficient, but it just doesn't seem right. Smilie

As for Chrome, I have 5 tabs right now, and it's taking 2gb of RAM. Such a hog! Thumbdown

Try another browser. Opera GX has a built-in feature where you can manually cap RAM use.
