Definitely lost, no company cares about your privacy. Your encryption is pointless when the feds have backdoor access. If you're wanted enough Apple will happily give them the keys. Also CSAM, which supposedly has been "killed". Also VPNS do nothing. If you're using a modern digital device connected to the internet, expect 0 privacy.

Interesting take. I was comparing Samsung/android vs IOS and their ecosystems when it came to privacy. Never wanted to discuss /r/privacy topic here.

All the leaks make it look like a very small upgrade from the S22. Probably better to wait a year or get a mint used S22 Ultra for ~650

Have to agree. I'm sticking with my Note 20 Ultra, then someday I'll buy whatever brand has an SD card, big screen, and whatever other features I want. I don't really care what brand it is.
At this point, Sony may be the last one to qualify all.

Hope the s22 ultra trade in is big. They sent some stupid international version of the s22 ultra last year when I chose unlocked that was not compatible with firstnet. This time ill choose ATT so I can get back on firstnet.
im hoping to be about $200 to go from s22 to s23

Hopefully they'll have a good upgrade on the flip four. I got it and I really hate it because I live in constant anxiety that I'm going to break it.

Trading in my flip 4. The only cool thing on flip phone is fold everything is either poor or slow. Camera is not great!! Performance is bad and more. Screen glitch for most of the games.

Thanks. I'm actually ready to move on from my Flip 4 to a S23 Ultra. The folding phone was cool, but almost impossible to fit in my pocket due to the bulk.
I have the flip and have had no problem with putting it in the pockets of my shorts, jeans, dress pants, and work pants. What were you wearing, swim trunks?

They're both the same, so what is there to discuss? There is no such thing as privacy in this digital Era. It's a forum lol, what do you expect? Reddit is it's own hivemind with circlerjerking inside every subreddit. Co-founder Aaron didn't want censorship, yet reddit has become exactly that. A censored sh*thole governed by the owners interests, I suppose that's most companies.

They also lowered the resolution for the regular and plus to a pathetic 1080p (pentile oled, so it looks even more pixelated than LCD 1080p). Removed the SPay magnetic strip emulator (could use your phone to pay at places that didnt have NFC terminals). And some other things, everything after the S10 has less features.
For those reasons, I am on my S10+ and it is working fine if not better than my friends who had s22u or s22u

I hear you, but those people have a point. The microSD card was dropped because Samsung wants you to spend another $250 for an extra 128gb, while a 128gb microSD is like $15. Sure internal memory is a bit faster, but it's mostly movies and pictures on the extra storage and doesn't need to be that fast.

It's a crappy business model to take away features on a phone and then upcharge people who want them back.
It's generally a $50 difference between a 128gb and 256gb model. I like having the microSD card, but it's more nuanced than just "Samsung wants you to buy higher gb models"

General public: doesn't care. Most average phone users don't even know to put a microsd card in. The number of users that are aware and bother are a lower percentile.

IP68 and weatherproofing: Removing externally added features improves weatherproofing abilities. If/when eSIM is fully adopted, there will be no tray at all.

Overall performance: Moving data and applications to external storage can impact the experience of the device as it is significantly slower than embedded flash storage. People don't know the difference between UFS and Classes of cards, then there's a chance that people will put in a terrible card and then blame samsung for performance issues.

Reputation: Data loss can occur readily, which most customers would again, blame the phone or the manufacturer. So there are risks to reputation. I saw this a lot when I used to work as a CSR back in the original Galaxy 1/droid/etc days.

Alternative product market: Cloud storage is entirely another product and business model that's lucrative and convenient for end users. This benefits both service providers (who are looking at data consumption as a revenue generator) and cloud storage providers. Specific to Samsung, they offer Samsung Cloud.

As a techy end user, yes, I would love to have a microsd card. But if you consider it from the business perspective, then yeah, it makes more sense to remove it.

How? I did the opposite and quite enjoy pixel 7.
Curious, what phone did you move from to the Pixel 7? I have always loved the camera (really the camera software) on Pixels, but the hardware has been frustratingly underwhelming. I traded a Galaxy S9 for a Pixel 5 a few years ago and the phone was slower and performed worse right out of the box than the 2 year old Galaxy. I made it 2 months before I traded it in for an S21. I'm now eying the Pixel 7+, again enamored w/ the camera features, but strongly leaning towards an S22 or 23 because I just don't trust Google's chips to perform the way I want.

I used to not agree with you but now I pretty much do.

One of the reasons I am not disappointed with the removal of SD card is because now there is just one thing to backup , the phone - not the phone and sd card. The past few phones that have had sd slots - pretty much the whole galaxy and note lines since they removed removable battery required a cumbersome insertion into the sim tray . Microsd cards also easy to lose when not in the phone. Overall its still a plus to have that feature but Im kind of over it.

I'll agree as well... it used to be nice to have a microSD slot when you had a 16gb or 32gb phone. With every flagship having at least 128gb and the upgrade to 256gb being in the $50 range, I definitely see the reasoning for deleting the slot. Unless you lug around your movie collection, I don't see much of an issue.

Yeah the slot is useful for my old S8 I still use with Gear VR - VR Porn takes up a lot of space laugh out loud
