We have two of these and they are great. I have one in my fishing backpack for camping, and so does my son. He keeps his in his car at all times. I'd buy another if one broke...in fact...my son did break his (his fault) and the manufacturer gave him a discount on a new one.

here is socal, I frequent pacific coast highway often on my motorcycle and carry a telescoping rod in my backpack. I'll pull over when I see a good spot and spend some time fishing. These are great travel rods

I'll be traveling to SD about once a month for work.

I plan on taking a boat out at fisherman's landing, but would also like to bring a rod and reel with me in the event I have only a couple hours after work to fish.

I already have a 7' M travel (4 piece) spinning rod rated for 1/4-1/2oz, but I've thrown up to an ounce with it and it seemed fine. I use a BG2500 with it.

Would you suggest anything else? A heavier setup? I doubt I would be throwing any weight and bait, but may like to have that option if it's easy and quick enough to grab bait and do some fishing.

Thanks.

i keep one with me at all times. you have to be careful - they are delicate and can break easier than a regular rod. but just use it with that understanding and they will last.

What about the performance? I seldom see anyone using the telescopic one when fishing
I have this rod and a few others that telescope. None fish as well or cast as well as my cheap two piece rods. Just my two cents. I would save my money on these unless you absolutely have to have a telescoping rod for a specific use scenario. If you have to have a telescoping spinning or casting rod, I would say this KastKing model is head and shoulders better than any other I have found online or in box stores.

That's a perfect setup for San Diego and Mission Bays. I would recommend using 1/4 to 1/2 inch weedless lead heads (ton of salad in the bays) like warbaits paired with either big hammer plastics in 3-4 inch size if fishing from shore around the docks. Even hookup baits work well here. Same would apply if fishing from a boat within the bay. If your plans are to leave the bays into open waters, you would need to up your gear

This is perfect, thanks.

My travel rod won't actually fit in my carry-on, so I guess I'm going to grab one of these telescopic rods.

Anyone rating you may suggest or just stick with something around 7' and in the 1/2oz range?

looking for a shorter one for small river fishing. I hike trails with lots of trees overhead. Seems hard to find.

Check Daiwa Presso pack rod, it has 56UL all the way up to 7UL. Pack rod is way better than tele rod.

The 7 foot fast medium would be the one I'd get. Or 6.6" in Medium Light.

My order came today.

Build is very good, I didn't see any QC concerns. Better than I expected to be honest. Rod has good feel too it. It isn't heavy at all like most telescopic rods. Lining up the guides is going to be a PITA I can tell already since some of the guides are free floating. But the pieces hold together very well, so I don't think twisting of the pieces or guides will be too much of an issue.

I bought the 6'8" one, but unfortunately it still is a little too big to fit in my carry-on bag which is the reason I bought it. Oh well, I think I can just strap it to my backpack (personal item) when flying and they won't hassle me too much about it.

Either way, I'm going to keep it in my truck since you never know when you might find a nice pond to fish.

Edit: it will fit in my carry-on if I remove the plastic tip protector. So that is an option (or I buy a slightly bigger carry-on bag).

Picked up a 7' M for when we fly to FL to visit family. Paired it with one of their Spartacus II reels (3000 size) which was also on sale. Took it to a lake the other day and it casts a variety of baits well. Noticed at one point one of the telescopic sections twisted a bit but was easy to adjust/fix. Lining up all the eyelets when first expanding is a bit of a pain, but once you have them set you're good. Will probably leave it extended when down there and only collapse when traveling. All in all it seems to fit what I was looking for, time will tell how well it holds up, but so far I'm impressed.
