This deal is for the 1st gen. I have had both but I prefer 1st gen over 2nd, because of the wide screen ratio, as opposed to the tall ratio, plus it has better resolution. 1st gen also used with the Nest app which in my opinion is better than the google home app (required with Gen 2).

Be warned that these contain an internal battery that lasts 2-3 years. After that, the doorbell becomes nearly useless (only works well when the doorbell isn't pressed) until the battery is replaced (which is like replacing the battery of a smartphone).

This version doesn't have a battery its hardwired to the doorbell transformer via the existing wires.

This version does contain battery. I would have to turn the chime off in settings because when the buttons are pressed. It would cause nest door bell to go offline.

It does have a battery inside. For example, guide to remove it: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Nest...ent/131729

I have this version, purchased in September 2018 (probably installed a few months later) and I haven't noticed any issues with mine. Is this supposed to happen to all of them?

Get this one while it's still in the market. It's a great price. New ones are crap.

It's a great camera doorbell but it's pretty dumb if you don't pay for the nest aware monthly plan. I don't have any other google camera and paying the lower tier plan seems to be too much and providing too little functionalities.

So you need to factor in the service fee you need to pay as well as the product costs.

If you don't pay the subscription, basically it will be useless.

I paid $13 for this POS maybe 18 months ago when Office Depot dropped a bunch of smart home stuff to 90% off.

I absolutely hate it...the interface is unusable and after I canceled Nest Aware (pointless anyway) it now pops up every time I try to answer my doorbell with an alert about it. Unusable even at $13.

This just happened to us. We ended up upgrading to the new model which seems to be working. Ours was purchased in 2019. I think it's all just a crap shoot
