I paid only one month of service, and let it sit in the box. It's automatically unlocked 180 days later.

Am I the only one terrified of going into a metro store. Have read so many horror stories of mangers making up their own rules (requiring insurance, buying cases, requiring 3 months of service)

Port your Google Voice number out to another carrier
To port your number out of Google Voice, first you need to unlock the number. Then, let your carrier know you want to port a number to their service. Work with them until the porting process is complete.

When you unlock your Google Voice number, it costs $3 USD. But if your number was originally ported in from another carrier, there's no charge.

On your computer, open Google Voice.
At the top right, click Settings and then Settings.
Go to the "Account" section.
Under the Google Voice number you wish to port out, click Unlock.
Complete the payment with your Google Account.
Ask your carrier to port your number to their service.
If successful, at the bottom left, it displays "Number unlocked."
Tips:

If your carrier asks for your account number and PIN, provide your 10-digit Google Voice phone number and the PIN you use to access your Google Voice voicemail.
Some third-party services may not accept phone numbers which originated from Google Voice, including after they have been ported to Google Fi. We recommend contacting any affected third-party service providers should this issue arise.

Sorry to ask, but why did you buy the charging cables and glass protectors?
Is by your choice or does the sales rep at Rooesevelt Ave force to buy them?
I will visit there tomorrow, but want to be prepared.
After I ported over my numbers, the saleswoman told me that the protectors and adapters were free and included in the price. I repeatedly told her that, even though they were free, I didn't want them, but she insisted and even opened the protectors, because she didn't want me to return them later. I asked to see her manager, of course, her manager was on her side. Yes, I was forced to buy them; otherwise, I would have lost my numbers. Long story short, after I filed a complaint with the FCC, a woman from T-mobile's senior customer care team contacted me. She offered me a check to cover the cost of the accessories. Approximately 6 weeks later, I received the check.

Wow … I've heard some scummy stories about them, but that's one of the worst. Glad you followed through with the FCC and got it taken care of. I wish more people would follow through like that and cause them as many headaches as possible for doing that kind of thing.

NOTE: Given the number of horror stories like the one above, I'd strongly suggest that everyone have at least a voice recorder running on your phone (or a spare that you keep in your pocket) from the moment you walk in the store. Obviously, it won't help much in cases where they just strong-arm you into buying extras to get the deal, but in cases where they blatantly lie like that, it might be of interest to some state agencies that look into consumer fraud. Or maybe a local news channel consumer helpline could rattle some cages. It would be nice to see something finally happen to places like this with such widespread predatory practices. Just be aware that some states prohibit recording conversations unless all parties are aware of it (even in semi-public settings like that). So be very careful about even mentioning such recordings unless you're fully aware of the legality if you go that route. Personally, I wouldn't be too worried about actually making the recording, but just don't be the hothead that mouths off that you recorded everything they said.

Did this deal yesterday at a corporate store. Got two iphones for $155 total. $60+$30 for service, plus $12 insurance for each, plus $20 activation fee for each. Didn't have to pay taxes in my state for whatever reason, maybe because it came out to free.

Over all a pretty painless experience. Had to deny the upsell cases and charger, but thats about it.

Use a boost mobile number bought on ebay and a google voice number I already had unlocked for $3.
Which state? Does anybody know if we have pay taxes in NJ? I was told to pay 33 dollar taxes in authorised dealer shop.

Could a boost mobile number be qualified as a ported number? I ask this because I recently did the 3 month service with boost and the free iPhone XR
Yes it is

The in store thing is stupid because you can do everythign online. They want you in store so they can upsell you things.

This is useful but I can imagine the hassle of dealing with metro by tmobile when going to their store and trying to port in a google voice number in order to get this deal, I bet most of some of them will deny the port in if they will know that it's a google voice number.

She collected $180 from me, but the first stmt showing $98.00 as paid in cash. Store has ripped me off. Same thing, she asked me to choose one of screen protectors or charger or something else as free, but charged when i looked at the receipt, and no itemized receipt. She put all under one item with total price. Lesson leaned, make sure to get detailed receipt with upfront cost before porting your number out.

Definitely they can do a better job by selling directly to the customer like cricket wireless.

I did this deal just last week at an authorized store (corporate store not easy to get to) but the price of the phone was $49.99.

What are the odds they will refund me the $49.99 since I am still within the 14 day return period?
Same situation here

I got this deal at a local Metro by T-Mobile corporate store. I had to stand firm about refusing the upsell, but got the deal. I will never go into one of their stores again . This company is awful.

FWIW- It looks they are closing their corporate stores like Cricket did. All that will be left is the even worse often sleazy is AR / independent dealers who seem to do whatever they want (rip people off)

Can you give us more information on the unlocking for the phones? Can we get it unlocked by only paying 1 month of service and waiting 5 more months or does it have to be 6 months of continuing paid service?
I'm not the person you quoted but that should worked.

They started the iPhone 11 deal last year (at a higher price). I paid 1 month on each iPhone 11 that I purchased. They auto unlocked around the 184th day.
