I don't know how good is this hackzall, but the Fuel version M12 is weak. I sold mine and bought the M18 Fuel and its much better.

Both hackzall's are good, but you can't compare the m12 vs the m18 they both have different purpose and for different crafts. Their main focus is being super compact.

I love mine too, they're great tools to have. I already own the m18 version so there's no season for me to get this, but it's a good price for who ever is looking to buy one.

Size wise how does this compare to the m12 non fuel or m18 fuel versions?

its decent. Compact size, but vibrations like a MF if cutting for more than 10sec. It can cut through 2x4 pretty with a good blade (I use diablo) in under 10s. Tried using it alongside a neighbor's M12 Hatchet to cut 4-5'' trunk of tree and my arm was shaking with it, while the hatchet was butter smooth (The little M12 Fuel Hackzall got the job done though). HAckzall is a battery hogs so must use XC or HO 5.0 with it, I would not waste my time with any CP batteries unless it was literally for <12 cuts in a very tight space. I'd keep the 5.0 HO gifted with this deal unless you have plenty of XC 4.0, 6.0, or 5.0. I used mine primarily for pruning with one hand.

I've never used the non fuel M12 version, but watching comparison videos its interesting that the brushless Fuel is actually larger. This is the same thing that happen with the Brushed Vs Fuel M12 Multi tool. So if you need the smallest tool, Brushed is the way to go. I typically always go fuel for battery efficiency and some performance boost.

I appreciate the feedback. I mostly use it for cutting pipe in tight areas, so smaller is better. May end up grabbing this fuel for the better performance.

for past few weeks, every time I buy something Milwaukee from slick deals, an even better deal shows up the week after. With that said, how likely will this come close to the $82 price from last May 2022?

The two are very close in size and wight, the m12 fuel is anemic compared to the m18. I can't think of a use case where the m12 fuel is better suited than the m18.
The m12 brushed (non fuel) is lighter/more compact and a better choice than the m12 fuel if you don't need the power of the m18.

After adding the free battery, my cart remains at $189; $116 for the tool and $73 for the battery. Do I have to return the battery for a refund to get the $116 price?

It's not much smaller than the m18 fuel. It is a little lighter though especially considering how heavy m18 batteries are.
