unless you are a spec whore; smoothness is determined by multiple factors other than raw hz rate but also 1% low, input lag, and response times; it's just all up to what is technically bottle necking your experience
i have 120-144hz but there's no difference in that because differences are diminished; people will definitely see an improvement going from 60hz to 75hz
if anything the freesync technology of the thing that enables more people to enjoy smooth performance without needing vsync

And I checked. The MSRP on this one hasn't been $400 for a couple years. Amazon wants $300.

and a 3070TI shold run 3 no issues.

Pushing those CRTs to 85Hz was hit or miss and usually came with resolution limitations. Some early native 60Hz LCDs allowed 75Hz, but it wasn't guaranteed even from model to model. And then, of course, consoles were limited to 60Hz for quite a few generations.
That is, to say, a lot of us look at a dozen other specs before going straight to the refresh rate. And it's justified.
For example, on most of the 240Hz and higher displays, that's pretty much the only thing going for them.
I used to have a KVM, but now that monitors come with multiple input sources I've switched to just a KM USB switch. But having to rely on the monitor to do the video switching is a pain because they don't have an easy way to do it - no extended button dongle that can be mounted in an easy to reach location.

It looks like source detection is a setting in the options, but maybe the HDMI handshake is getting in the way.
A $10 active splitter with an HDMI/DP adapter would probably fix this for you.
