Multiple access points. Total budget is 120w vs 60w. An access point can use up to 30 watts.
Yeah that's pretty much every company.

can you cycle the POE power remotely?
yes each port can be cycled individually via web interface, and if you don't like cycling everything when your reboot the switch there is an option for that as well

Good price from a name-brand company but the Chinese versions on Amazon have been this price, normally, for at least 3 years. No moving parts, keep them in a not-hot area and you'll be fine. Probably the same components in all of them. Amazon reviews help weed out the bad models.

Should be fine as long as you don't plan on any camera with auto tracking. Most of my cams only use 3-6 watts each.

What POE are you using and how much? Thx.

I hate Blink. Great idea, but the product battery management is not there yet. Blink tells me to set up the cameras where there is less traffic. Uhm... That's the solution? Thanks Blink.

What are some examples of POE devices that would require 120w of power vs 60w?

One of the images on the Amazon site for the 120w version shows a comparison of PoE, PoE+, and PoE++.

Poe should supply 15w per port so 8x15w=120w. I use poe for wifi access points that consume 11w. Ip cams are often under 7-8w. Some ip cam oriented poe switches offer 30w poe (albeit at 100baseT) so you can daisy chain 4 cams off one port. Your use case will determine what you need.

This switch will offer PoE+ up to 30w per port with a power budget limit of 120w total output across all ports. The wattage doesn't have to be the same on every port the total just needs to under 120w.

What is considered a generically good watt/port? Like more than enough to run pretty much any cam without thinking about it?

Several things to consider.

1) what speed are your cameras? 10/100 or 10/100/1000?

2) What flavor of PoE do they need? 802.3af? (Up to 15 watts request allowed by each device) 802.3at? (Up to 30 watts request allowed by each device) or 802.3bt type 3 or 4. 60w and 100w request respectively.

3) what is the total budget needed to power your devices? (Simply add up all the device wattage ratings)

So from these three things you can determine the switch you need.

That said you may have seen that I mentioned "request" above. A switch doesn't just send power. The device actually requests and negotiates the power it needs from the switch, then the switch turns the power on at that level.

Most cameras are under 15w and use 802.3af.

So knowing the above:
Figure out how many cameras you need.
Total up the wattage requirements. (Power budget needed)
Figure out the speed of the cameras.

Find a switch that meets the requirements above! (max power per port is determined by the switch having 802.3: af, at or bt(3/4) 15w,30w,60w and 100w per port) The main thing being enough ports for all your cameras+1(uplink) and a power budget (total wattage the switch can supply) available that is higher than your total power budget needed.

Hope that helps!

What should I look for if I want the power port to be on the same side as the ethernet ports?

This is a pretty good switch. I was able to troubleshoot issues with my ethernet network by using diagnostic tools that this switch provides. It's made in Thailand, not China, btw.

They need to put the 16 port POE cameras on sale. 8 is too small. You'll run out of ports quick.

I'm assuming this is enough power to run 8 hd poe cameras with blue iris? Haven't started researching it yet but I know I need 6-7 cameras and this seems like a good deal
if they use less than 7.5w max, then it could.

Reduce the sensitivity a bit. Use the masking that allows you to block out excessive movement (like when our flag blows in the wind). Blink has been great for us. Only problem was when one unit didn't like 20 below zero. It kept saying that the battery was low. After it warmed up for a couple of days, it was happy again.

It's not that a single device requires that much, but how much is needed across the ports.. you have 120 watts available, so if all your stuff is newer, it would be supported

Same price on B&H. Tempted, but my current Poe switch is doing the trick with only 4 PoE ports, the Netgear 108v2. Only problem I have is when my work computer hijacks the network if it restarts and then shuts down before I've manual shut it down. Very annoying.
