I was just looking up the same, the 641 does not have an ADF, so there is no Duplex Printing nor scanning.

For Duplex Printing, you'll need to upgrade to the MF642Cdw

I think he means automatic scanning in bulk. It definitely has a scanner up top (it's an AIO after all).

Any good reco on toner on Amazon? I'd made purchases and all 3 toner was returned. It didn't fit.

Nope. No auto document feeder, no duplex printing, or scanning. This is a very basic, entry level color laser AIO.
it has a scanner

Toner doesn't dry, ink carts do. We get a ton of prints for the cost compared to like… 1-2 with inkjets (due to drying carts). We have the 642, but similar enough.

I would have gone for this but I opted for the Brother color laser printer posted last week as Brother has very good Linux support. Whole reason I upgraded from my "Dell" (Xerox) Phaser printer I bought five years ago. This one looks to be pain to setup in Linux.

Pretty much all printers you can get a low-cost generic toner on Amazon. I've found the generics to work pretty well with laser printers.
Sometimes. My brother L2395DW had a firmware update pushed out which bricked it for third party toner. I didn't have auto update on, either. Left a really bad taste in my mouth after using brother lasers for the past 18+ years.

I've had the 644CDw for many years now. It works very well with after-market toner which can be had for quite cheap (even high capacity ones). No point buying original toner. I couldn't make out any difference in print quality between original and the after-market. (I remember getting lucky that toner kingdom had just released their high capacity toners, and somehow they were priced cheaper than regular capacity. I got the entire set of 4 for $38 or something; originals were $400).

The biggest gripe with the printer is that it doesn't work well with Mac OS. In the sense that the computer will not stay connected. Every week or so you go to print something and the computer will keep searching for the printer. You have to delete the printer in settings and add it again. This doesn't happen when printing from a phone via AirPrint. Just via Mac OS. I tried a bunch of tips about turning off deep sleep etc. Nothing helps. Tons of complaints about the same issue on reviews and forums. Just living with it now. I got the printer crazy cheap one thanksgiving. So it's worth it. But yeah, something to be aware of.

Easy to fix.
1. Set your router to hard code the IP address of the printer so it never changes. If you don't know how to do it on your router, do it on the printer. Imagine we then have an IP address of 192.168.1.250.
2. Go to AppleMenu/Settings/Printers&Scanners/AddPrinter
3. In the new window, click the middle IP icon
4. Key in the top box the IP address; wait for a few moments while your Mac thinks
5. In the NAME field you can call it something friendly, like MyCanonColorPrinter
6. Click Add.
7. Remove any old Bonjour printers.
8. Done! Print to your new printer!

It will never change, and it will always work.

I wish it were that easy. Unfortunately, it isn't. I've always had static IPs for my printers for decades. That isn't the issue here. If you read canon support forums tons of people have had similar issues for this entire line. There are some people that think the printer's wifi keeps on dropping packets and the only reliable fix is to use an external wi-fi to ethernet bridge. I didn't bother with that. I just delete the printer and add it again in system preferences everything time the system keeping on trying to find the printer.

Here are some settings from a support thread that I had saved. It seemed to have helped a lot of people, but unfortunately it didn't work for me. Pasting it below in case it helps someone.

After you've set up a static IP for the printer on your router, do the following -
1. Change the Wireless LAN ECO mode setting to OFF.
Home >> Menu >> Preferences >> Network >> Wireless LAN Settings >> Power Save Mode >> Off

2. Change the Wireless IP address to a Static IP address instead of a Dynamic IP Address (DHCP)
Home >> Menu >> Preferences >> Network >> TCP/IP Settings >> IPv4 Settings >> IP Address Settings >> Auto Acquire >> Off

Home >> Menu >> Preferences >> Network >> TCP/IP Settings >> IPv4 Settings >> IP Address Settings >> Manually Acquire >> [ Enter your Home network specific IPv4 settings ]

3. Change the Wireless LAN Settings to use a TLS connection for IPP printing
Home >> Menu >> Preferences >> Network >> TCP/IP Settings >> IPP Print Settings >> Allow IPP Printing Only w/ TLS >> On

Here is a helpful thread -

Not a bad deal, picked this up a few weeks ago for a family member.

Wish Amazon would bring back the MF644Cdw for $209 I picked up BF 2019.

Huh, interesting. Brother was the only one with a direct link to Linux Printer Drivers so that sealed the deal for me. I wonder if I'll actually print enough to encounter issues with 3rd party toner...I changed the printer toner for my Dell Xerox Phaser once in 5 years lol.
