If you have the Amazon Prime credit card, it's basically the same price on Amazon because they're giving 10% back on select Crucial drives until April 2 I believe.

You should read up on TBW and SSD endurance more generally. Almost no one will hit the TBW number doing anything even remotely typical with a computer or PS5.

This drive has a rating of 440 TBW, which would be 24 years writing 50 GB per day. Are you writing 50 GB per day to your drive? And if you are, how much do you think it will cost to replace this drive in 24 years?

The 980 Pro has a 5 year or 1200 TBW warranty on the 2 TB model. You'd really have to slam that thing to hit 1200 TBW in 5 years. And after 5 years it doesn't matter if you've only done 100 TBW, you're out-of-luck.

The analogy here is a car with a 1,000,000 mile 5 year warranty. No normal person is going to exceed 1M miles in 5 years. Worrying about getting a 1.5M mile warranty with the same 5 year warranty isn't going to be anymore valuable for anyone.

Why risk it when the warranty is tied to it? I don't think I'll hit it, but I also don't think I'll need the extra bandwidth gen 4 or 5 will give me. When I decide to upgrade, it'll be well after gen 5 prices come down.

The car warranty is the perfect analogy. 10,000 miles per year is a pretty normal amount to drive a car. But SSD warranties are rarely more than 5 years. If you have 500 TBW and 5 years, you'd need to do 100 TB/year, which is an insane amount to use your drive, unless it's being used in a data center.

TL;DR:
You're all but guaranteed to hit the "years" part of your warranty than the TBW part of your warranty.
