whats the difference between these an an energy drink? it literally looks like caffeine and b vitamins.
Beta alanine to give you a pump. Sometimes creatine, though not enough to do anything, especially if you hadn't prepped or maintained 5g in your body. So yes, largely these are energy drinks...just way more value for the money.

It sounds like this has 2.5g of creatine in it already. If you take this once per day before the gym, would it be as simple as adding another 2.5g of creatine powder to this, or is there more to consider?

Yes that's correct. The efficacious dose of creatine is 5g daily, no matter how you get it. I used to buy C4 but have moved on to better formulations. Here's a critique of C4 and 4 other popular pre-workouts by an expert: https://youtu.be/QzJCVf8ocPg

Beta Alanine is a trash supplement ingredient for weightlifting (better for endurance activities by evidence) that doesn't really promote pumps. L-Citrulline (5-10g) will help with getting those pumps up. Some people like that itchy tingling feel Beta-A gives to get them hyped up by basically making you know you took a pre, but the studies have proven it doesn't really do much.
