The other router mentioned in your link, supports the newer 9x (currently beta) firmware with additional features which isn't available for this model.

From Asus site RT-AX86U PRO beta firmware:
New Features:
1. Add Guest Network Pro:

• Kids WiFi: Create a network for kids that blocks access to adult content and has a schedule to control when the network is available.
• VPN WiFi: Create a VPN network that connects to 3rd party VPN services or with ASUS site to site VPN(https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1048281/) to encrypts your internet connection and hides your IP address to protect your online activities from being tracked or monitored.
• IoT WiFi : Create an IoT (Internet of Things) network that blocks malicious traffic* and only allows 2.4GHz devices to connect.
• Guest WiFi: Create a guest network with a WiFi schedule and access rights to control when and how guests can use the network.
2. Add VLAN in LAN settings.
3. Add Auto USB WAN backup, while primary WAN is down, plug USB phone/dongle will auto enable backup internet, no setup is required.
4. Add iPhone USB tethering. (Please make sure hotspot on iPhone is enabled).
5. Add Multi-services WAN, create multiple profiles on a single WAN interface.

AXE7800 has half the RAM of AX-86U Pro (512MB vs 1GB), as well as slower quad core processor (1.7GHz compared to 2GHz).

Notably, the RT-AXE7800 is a Tri-band 6E router with coverage of the 6 GHz band. That feature made it worth the extra $25 in my mind.

Some convenient features included in the new firmware! I wonder if the RT-AXE7800 will be supported per the list at the bottom of this page: https://routerkb.asuscomm.com/?page_id=9

Edit:
It appears these features are included in the RT-AXE7800 firmware version 3.0.0.4.388.22068, although I can't confirm directly, since my order doesn't arrive until next week.

I've got a 4 year old D-Link EXO AC2600 MU-MIMO. Just moved into a larger 2500 sq ft house and having some issues with the wifi signal in a few spots. Is this a good upgrade? Or not worth it?

This seems to be a great deal for a tri-band router with 6 ghz band support. Bought one to try to see if it's stable as it's relatively new, as ASUS router tends to be unstable when released and takes time to get better thru firmware updates.

It seems this is only worth it for the 6E. Thanks

Eh, I've been running an r7000 with a dual-core 1GHz processor and 256MB RAM for ages. It's configured as a DDNS client and as a WireGuard VPN server. CPU usage is minimal, and 75% of the RAM is free. Roughly 20 clients, including a Synology NAS.
I'm skeptical that most users would make use of the additional CPU/RAM of the ax86u Pro, unless they're using the USB NAS functionality. What other benefits would you expect from the increased RAM?

I'm still leaning toward this for its 7 extra 160MHz channels in less congested spectrum.

The 6ghz bandwidth is limited. It is a somewhat crippled 6e router. RAM is 512mb compared to 1gb on ax86.

Worth noting that 6E is the same speed as wifi 6, just on a different band, so less congestion. It requires a 6E capable device on the receiving end as well. Only really important for folks looking to future-proof their setup or if they have already maxed out their current wifi6 setup.
