The High Edurance version is more of an apples to apples comparison, and they are rated at 40,000 hours versus 70,000 for the Samsung. 128GB is $13.50, and this is $16.
True, you won't run out of space, but you will start overwriting sooner with a smaller capacity card. With a larger capacity card, it'll start overwriting later, so you can keep more history (ie keep more older videos) on the card before being overwritten. This could be helpful in case you don't realize you needed some footage until some time later. You can decide for your use case how important that is to you. Plus, people who drive a lot will also save more footage to the card, so they will probably want a larger capacity card.
For a dashcam, unless you drive 40k+ miles a year, a 128gb should be plenty and should this one should last for years before failure.

If you drive a lot and want the camera on all the time when not driving, then you may want a 256gb card.

what other card is good enough for storing media? mostly for playing music from it. I have bought this Samsung endurance in the past with 256gb, but reading the reviews i think this is overkill for just storing media in a phone. maybe i can find something at cheaper price with more storage.
If just music and pictures; samsung evo SD card. If you're also doing 4k videos on the phone, samsung pro SD cards

Is there an advantage to buying the 256gb for $30 over the 128gb?

I'm new to dashcams but doesn't the card get overwritten anyways when it's full? So you technically never really run out of space I mean?

You'll get double capacity (record x2) and, as commented, less rewrite, (longer life x1.5-2) (also more reliability x1.2-1.5, in the sense that you can be more sure that the recording you need will not be erased due to a bad microSD state). Then you're getting up to x6 benefits for a little more than x2 price.

I have too. But I also had a time I tried to pull video and the time of the (parked) event wasn't recorded even though right before it was. Now this has me wondering… they don't seem to say WHY they found them problematic.
It was likely the firmware of your front/rear camera issues.
I had this issue before with my rear camera. I updated to the lasted FW at that time and no issue so far.
Make sure you format the microSD card using the dashcam once or twice a year and update your dashcam to the lasted FW.
I also have used SanDisk high endurance 128GB/256GB for 2-3 years without any issue.
More info can be found on dashcamtalk forum and Viofo website (for lasted FW).

The issue was things not being recorded and random cut outs from videos. You can read more about it on dashcam forums. I used to run the new samsung pro endurance 128gb in my cam as well. Since switched to sandisk max card instead.

Is this 128 gb Samsung SD card at $16 better than Sandisk extreme 256gb at $22?

This card is not recommended in Viofo dashcams. There was issues with the new samsung cards. https://support.viofo.com/support...o-dashcam- [viofo.com]
It should be more like Viofo cam is not recommended for this card. Most 128gb brand names seems to be not recommended for Viofo

It depends on many factors and not just time of use
does the camera record in 1080p or 4K
does it have single double or 3 cameras
is it recording 24/7 or only when driving...
and many cameras dont take over certain size of sd card. I think for this cost its best to replace every 2years, than to loose the video the only time when you need it

These are great. They are also *a lot* faster in a Raspberry PI compared to Samsung's EVO Select cards...

Getting 2 of these cards from Amazon is a good candidate for the $10 off Amazon locker pickup deal. Your total will be $21.98 +tax for 2 cards.
Holy smokes!! Thank you for this.. I added 2 128GB cards.. chose a locker near me.. used the PICKUP10OFF code and got it down to $20.72 total before tax. Thanks again! Peace
