If I remember correctly, after you choose trade in and finish the steps online, you can get the 20% off. You don't need to wait till they finish appraisal.

It's YMMV depending on how Amazon rates each person's account.

But you can always just go through the Trade-in motions and it will let you know whether you qualify for Instant trade-in credit or Not, before you get to the point of no return (ie printing a shipping label). And if not, just back out of the transaction.

I did this multiple times with echo trade ins got the code on my account, used it, and then cancelled the trade in. It worked a good 3 times until now they require me to send it in before getting any trade in codes.

Just tried for this promo and they offered the 20% instant again for me. So I guess it all depends...maybe there is some grace period before you're back on the nice list.

I just tested it and it allowed me to trade-in a real old Firestick for $3. I just don't need another Paperwhite so I cancelled the Trade-in.

Do serial numbers have to match for traded in devices? I have a couple of 1st gen Fire TV sticks that I can trade in but can't find the serial number on the device itself.

There's a list at the bottom of Locations on Amazon's Trade-in page where they MAY be able to accept and/or Evaluate your Trade-in. You would still submit the trade-in online FIRST and then go to the location to see if they'll evaluate your device while you wait.

It doesn't really matter. They're only going to give like $3 for trade-in value. It's 20% off Coupon you want. That takes $30 off, to go along with the $70 discount from today's Prime sale price .
