The severity is unknown but there is smoke that the controller used on this SSD is suspect.

With that said, that was about a year ago and for 85 dollars for a game drive filled full of relatively unimportant data, Im not detered by it.

In for one.
Next time you are in the market for a mobo get one that has the heat sinks built in . my Mobo has heat sinks for most of the 5 SSD slots.
Or 89 with epp/edu.

To be a stickler, there is no such thing as an active heatsink, only active cooling
But I'm sure everybody would understand you

It's pretty old tbh. I have S70 with new firmware, haven't had any issues after 4000+ hrs and 14TB hot read/write.

Go with Samsung 980 Pro 2TB. It's only $99.
Isn't this technically faster though?

There are people who are still reporting issues. Maybe it is older firmware though. I have a S70 Blade and had no issues. It's blazing fast.

If I use this in a ps5, do I need a heat sink for it? Can anyone recommend a cheap one?

If this is the same as the xfg drive people have mentioned, which is a big if, then it is quite fast. Not universally faster in all ways than 980pro, but very fast. The potential issues are:

It doesn't perform like the review units due to cherry picking or hardware swapping.
It's not at all the same as the xfg.
Firmware issues leading to lower performance.
Inconsistency between units.
Higher failure rate than Samsung/sabrent.
It's not fast enough to notice vs other good drives.

So people might gravitate to Samsung for reliability reasons.

Personally, very little people have use cases where they can benefit from a 7000+ MBps sequential read drive. Sustained writes are all slow. If this and Samsung wasn't so cheap right now, I would buy the other, slower brands to save money. 3500mbps? Still pretty rad.

It says ps5, can we not use this in a normal windows laptop?

I would check what type of ssd you need for your laptop. This may be too big in physical size. Do some research for your laptop.

I've had this drive for over a year with absolutely no issues, using it in my PC...the price drop from then till now is ridiculous, to the point where I regret not waiting a year to buy this. I paid $200 on sale in May 2022 and now this is down to $85...wow.

iirc this is actually the same thing as XPG S70 blade

Which is a phenomenal drive - have one and it performs up there with the best rated drives on the market

I just bite the bullet and ordered this one instead of 980 Pro.

I bought the 2TB XPG S70 Blade, which I'm assuming is the same drive, and it has been running well in my PS5 for almost 1.5 years. Paired with a Sabrent PS5 replacement cover plate.

SABRENT M.2 NVMe PS5 heatsink (SB-PSHS) https://a.co/d/hECtXMI

My exact set up. I bought for last year's prime day. Spent $200 for that drive back then

They haven't released any firmware updates for over a year that I could find. My drive, which has the random vanishing bug, has firmware 3.2.F.66. What version is yours?

Welp, glad you got a lucky one, I guess. Maybe the controller just has bad yields, and it's not a firmware thing
