5 years isn't a short amount of time but it was a >$1000 fan. A bit frustrating when I have cheap home depot fans lasting longer.
Before the issues it was the quietest, most powerful fan I've used. Outside of the smart features it was extremely good, and the smart features worked quite well. The move to the BAF app was good, I much prefer it to the old Haiku app.

Well, that answers my question lol. I am not a fan of units that require disassembly for regular maintenance. Thanks for the info.

I really like mine. I don't use the light too much though... but it responds very well to Alexa commands to turn on and off the fan and adjust fan speed. Light too when I use it.
I am planning to move in the future and thought about taking this fan with me but probably won't go through the trouble and risk, but I might wait until it drops to $450 again and then just buy another after I move.

A 125 Hunter fan from a big box store will often last 10 years. If this can't do that regularly, what is the point? This fan looks pretty generic and uninspiring, what are you paying for?
If I had to guess? High costs due to low production runs.
For this money, if you have a problem, they should just send you a new one. That should be what you pay for with a brand like this and that's how you build a dedicated customer base, a la SVS subwoofers.

They're rated for a motor life of 50,000 hours so 5.7 years. I'm guessing you ran it 24/7 so it died only slightly early. Just kidding. This brands fans put out a ton of air and you see huge ones in warehouses that make a night and day difference but let's be honest, a fan pitch is a fan pitch and motor RPMs are motor RPMs. There's far far cheaper options on Amazon and elsewhere and this brand is a lot of marketing and their name IMO. I'm not sure their claim of better quality matches their pricing.
But they use aviation engineers for the fan blades. That's what makes them unique - They use rocket science and avionics to design the blades.
They do industrial fans, and around here (where they're based) those fans have really good reps. A bummer that their home line struggles.
