As with most high-end hedge trimmers, the EGO hedger is serviceable. Assuming you are not using it in an environment where rain is sometimes a factor, it's recommended to grease the gear box every 50 hours. For me, that's about once a year. My manual doesn't specify what type of grease to use, but an EGO rep indicated that any NLGI-2 Lithium based grease will do. I used Lucas Oil 10533 White Lithium Grease & filled the gear box to 3/4. If you are in a wet environment, keep in mind that water WILL DEFINITELY work it's way down the blade bar, and into the gear box, so I would check that grease more often. Search YouTube & you will hear a few horror stories regarding ungreased hedge trimmer gears. Replacement parts are available for this model, but as you would expect, they are EXPENSIVE, and not covered under warranty, since that is a "wear issue". Grease is cheap, and only took me about 15 minutes, including cleaning out the old grease. It's possible to replace one of the screws with a grease nipple, but then there is no way to know if you are overfilling the gear box. My 2 cents.
DeWalt = American
It's not a bad product but for those wanting to invest in an American owned company instead of EGO which is owned by Chervon that the CCP itself has a stake in, I'd think twice.
China tries to hide brands, make them seem like they are American such as EGO (customer myself) but in reality, I helped profit the Chinese Communist Party which has partial ownership in Chervon.. even the name Chervon is on purpose because it makes people think of Chevron, a US company.. yes, really, they go to that extreme.
Chervon, the parent company of EGO is and has always been registered in China as their HQ. EGO has always been owned by Chervon.
Please Google it yourself. I think consumer awareness is important and the CCP goes through great lengths to confuse people.
And for anyone that says "yeah but DeWalt is made in China!!!" Yes some are their tools are.. and it's owned by Americans outright. It's not made in China, operated in China, owned partially by the Chinese Communist Party.
Jesus who cares, keep it about the deals
But again, appreciate the Jesus comment, thanks! hehe
