I think those readers are more expensive. So while these may work fine for a lot of cars, it would only pull generic codes common in the OBDII protocols. Things like Misfires, sensor signal low, Oxygen sensor errors, something short to ground etc etc. I don't think you can get too far in and modify module settings. On my Ford, you need specific software/hardware to get into the BdyCM, for example.
(Background: built a VW/Audi OBDII opto-isolated reader with my brother from schematics online around 2003, it worked with VAGCOM software that is still popular today)
"It can do essential work like resetting monitors, CEL issues, and clearing codes. It can also read live data, collect vehicle information, freeze data and display code definitions on the screen."

Anything else to verify ?
I got this a couple years ago just to have, and it's been good. Not great, but good. It doesn't catch all the codes from my experience so YMMV when I tested it against the one you can use for free at Advance Auto

$2 Obd2 bluetooth adapter with torque app seems to be better than this bulky device.

Not being experienced with these things, I was looking for an on switch to play with the unit but it draws power from the car when plugged in.
