I think those readers are more expensive. So while these may work fine for a lot of cars, it would only pull generic codes common in the OBDII protocols. Things like Misfires, sensor signal low, Oxygen sensor errors, something short to ground etc etc. I don't think you can get too far in and modify module settings. On my Ford, you need specific software/hardware to get into the BdyCM, for example.
(Background: built a VW/Audi OBDII opto-isolated reader with my brother from schematics online around 2003, it worked with VAGCOM software that is still popular today)
"It can do essential work like resetting monitors, CEL issues, and clearing codes. It can also read live data, collect vehicle information, freeze data and display code definitions on the screen."

You would rather waste your time and wait in line at an auto parts store for $13? You can keep this in your car in case your check engine light comes on during a road trip and the nearest town is 30 minutes away. $13 makes this a no brainer purchase. I already have 3 code readers (1 wifi, 1 BT, 1 cable) and I'm going to purchase the OP device and leave in the car so my wife can easily plug it in and read codes if she is driving either car.
This reader is probably fine but a Bluetooth one is better/works with torque or other apps. And about the same so. Meh. If you like a dedicated device and it actually works it's probably fine.

In Texas at least autozone/O'Reilly won't clear them unless you say you fixed the issue and just need the code cleared. It's either illegal or against their policy to just clear codes. Any reader can clear codes but not any reader can clear all codes. Some codes you need a $1k machine to clear. You can disconnect the battery but probably longer than a minute unless you disconnect pos and neg cables and touch the cables together to fully discharge the car of any current.
These are also great if you're buying a used car to check the im readiness to see if anyone has reset the codes to clear a CEL.

These connect a lot faster than Bluetooth and a much more stable connection.

I have the Tacklife version of this and use it yearly to clear the codes on our '07 Forester and check the readiness indicators before taking the emissions test. Works just fine.
*Of course, the OBD2 Bluetooth dongle and Torque app is also pretty good for that kind of stuff, but sometimes it's nice to have the standalone tester and not wait for syncing, etc.
