8gb storage is the same storage the stick launched with 8yrs ago. It is not enough. 8gb is what is on the stick. You then loose 4gb to a operating system. You need to keep at least 1gb free for updates. That leaves only 3gb for apps and games. It is the same problem weather it is a GCC, ONN and Tivo streamer.
I know there are cleaver ways to make a usb stick "adoptable" storage, but I can say , owning all of them, it is not pretty or clean in form and use. Some, or I mean most apps do not like working with "Adoptable" storage. Yea I know you can make use of a NAS, but again that does nothing about the storage or lack of storage problem. You can park and recieve files on your nas though with "some" programs.
When a Stick gets below 1gb free and Amazon pushes a update, is when all hell breaks loose and you end up factory resetting. When you get below .5gb you get bombarded with warnings to remove apps It just stops working worth crap!
I own only cubes as my everyday drivers. They come with 16gb Storage. Subtract the 4gb OS and 1gb free at all times and you still have enough room (11gb useable for apps). That is huge IMHO. The next time Woot has GEN2 cubes for $40, I would grab it. It is the best value and is the easiest way to get more usable storage not to mention it comes with that $15 Ethernet adapter and a IR blaster. These things are far more stable when you have more memory.
I know on paper there are some features the old cube does not have, but it is 1/3 the price of the new cube when woot has them. If you must have the latest codec or must have wifi 6, I could understand the need to get a gen 3 cube, but the max with only 8g storage is not enough in 2023.
