With education discount phone was $899 and tradein discount $900. So technically Zflip 5 should be free but some how at checkout it charged me $45 + tax
The real 'sweet spot' for phones now is the S22 Ultra unlocked, or- when the S24(made of titanium) releases soon, the S23 Ultra. The network components and build quality are 2x better for 1/4 the price.
I want a smaller phone too, but this aint it. it's just as big, but cut in half, and made to break.

You seem to forget peopel buying flip are mostly getting a new one yearly thanks to Samsung trade in price. so you will likely not seeing it pass warranty
And if you were playing the trade in game, you kind of need to jump every year to maximize your benefits
although the CA tax law requires tax on MSRP not trade in price, which made it a bit hard to swallow.
that said, if you really want a flip 5.. you should buy a flip 4 off amazon renewed for about 450 dollar (at the time of this post), and trade in at Samsung for 900 dollar credit toward a flip 5
