Ordered a 10cu ft a few weeks ago, was left upside down in my driveway, box heavily damaged. The front had 3 big dents in it, but it seemed ok otherwise. I let is sit upright for 48 hours, plugged it in, and it never started cooling down. DOA.

Kind of a pain to return, and it takes 2-3 weeks to get your money back. Just prepare for the return and dont snip the packing straps, slide them off the sides, it'll make it a LOT easier to pack back up.

Don't do it, guys. It's going to come damaged, and you'll have great fun trying to return it.

I bought it the last deal- first came damaged. Walmart eventually agreed to send a replacement. Getting it shipped back was ridiculously hard. Walmart sends you Fedex ground label (manager confirmed they have no knowledge of how to send Fedex freight label), but these have to be shipped via Fedex Freight. I was instructed by Fedex to call freight on my own to schedule, freight eventually took it out of courtesy. The replacement came in even worse shape. After telling Walmart about the chaos for the first return, they offered to send a Walmart in-home pickup. It never happened. They continue to promise their employees will come. A month later, I was still stuck with a broken freezer. Called them again, got to supposedly 2 layers up. They promised they will have it fixed by sending their crew over. I then got an email with a fedex "ground" label sent to me somehow. Called back after no one showed up during the supposedly Walmart employee pickup window, again. I was told nothing was ever set up, and it was 1 day before the return window closed. They suggest I haul it back myself the same day before it was too late. At this time, it has been over 10 hours of calling them just to have it returned. I was fed up and called my CC for a chargeback. I'm now still stuck with this broken freezer as my CC told me to hold onto it until they finished their investigation in 2 months.

DON'T DO IT! You don't want to be in the same mess.

Would be great if this didn't ship FedEx.

Why do I have to sign into Walmart.com to view this?

I ordered the garage ready unit from Walmart about a month ago. The first one arrive DOA. They told me to throw it away and sent me a replacement. The second unit was beat up pretty badly but did work. I wrote to Walmart and they offered a refund. Sent back the DOA unit. These seem to be packaged quite well, but even with the packaging, shipping bangs them around pretty badly. Just setting expectations.

It truly makes absolutely no sense why Walmart would not allow this to be shipped to store for pick-up to help reduce the # of units damaged.

I would only guess it's due to the weight and they just rather not have the liability with employees.

I dont understand auto defrost and manual defrost? whats the differences?
With Auto-Defrost. The unit has a heater that will periodically heat the evaporator coils there-by eliminating any frost build up. This also prevents any frost build-up in the food compartment as well.

In a Manual Defrost. The cooling element is all there is and it runs as required to maintain the set temperature. Therefore you are required.. well.. recommended. To periodically turn off your freezer. remove all the food. let the frost melt, dry the entire unit out, and then restock and restart once again.

TL;DR - The difference is a lot more work, however at a cost difference. It's a really great design, but one can also manage without it.

are any of these garage ready? hate listings that at least don't mention it. some have reported that the 7.0 is garage ready but it seems to be hit or miss.
The 7.0 cu ft chest freezer is definitely garage ready. I just received it a couple days ago and it says it on the sticker located on freezer itself.

The freezer did come with 3 dents and a corner was damaged as well but otherwise worked. I just asked for a discount via email and got about $30 off.

I ordered the 10 CU unit from the last deal and the first one did indeed arrive pretty damaged. Exchange process was actually painless, Walmart scheduled a pickup and I had a replacement in a week. The new unit also had a small dent, but it was just cosmetic so i kept it. It has been working great since.

My mini fridge has cosmetic dents in the back and sides. If it was huge front door dent, I'd return, exchange despite the hassle. Ended up just accepting their $30 refund

Had the chest freezer delivered earlier this week. Watched on security cam as the Fedex driver flipped the box end over end to get it to the front door. Expected damage but it was ok. Packaged better than expected with styrofoam and plastic corner pieces.
I had a local delivery company did that to our LCD flat screen about 12 years ago. And the face of the box was kicked in. Their manager was not happy when I called to have it replaced.

Why do we expect a single delivery person to handle delivering this huge box by themselves?

Some delivery people get paid flat rate per item delivered - whether it is 100lb box or a small envelope.

I don't know if they have a dolly and ramps to use, but this is the reason I'm not ordering it.

Can any of these be stored in the garage? At least don't mention it in listings. 7.0 is garage ready, but some reports indicate it's hit or miss.

Thanks OP. We've been waiting for a good deal on a stand up freezer and we're okay to take a chance on the dents. Just grabbed one!
