- Fingerprint magnet, but sturdy construction
- Gets a bit hot and fan can get audible during stuff like games (I use an eGPU), but expected for an i7-13700h chip
- For my general use case the battery lasts ~6 hours watching a lot of videos at 80% brightness
- Commonly used ports like the charger and headphone jack are on the right hand side
- RAM is soldered, storage is replaceable

With all that being said and mostly known going into purchasing this on last sale - I think this laptop is excellent at this price point. The screen alone should be a huge factor as it is such an incredibly nice panel to watch media on on top of its <1ms response and 120hz refresh that should auto switches to 60hz on battery. Keyboard feels great and touch screen is pretty good to use with a stylus pen when the screen can open at the 180 degree mark so the whole laptop goes flat. Integrated graphics works decent for old or lightweight games. You get a hella strong CPU at this range as well. All in all I recommend finding a store that has it on display as the web page will tell you where in your area and you got the 14 day return window, too.

I bought this laptop on the previous open box deal and here is my experience with it:

A) It has a slight grainy look due to the digitizer (touch) layer that is noticeable if you look for it on white and gray backgrounds. Normal use you probably wouldn't notice it.
B) Runs warm since it's a 13700h..
C) Battery life is around 6-10 hours depending on use maybe less.
D) Cinebench r23 multi 10min is around 11-13k plugged in.
E) Both USB-C ports are thunderbolt and can charge the computer.
F) League of Legends got around 110-130fps (set in game to 1080p I believe), and of course expect the fans to get loud though.

It's all around a GREAT laptop, but I'm on the fence about returning it due to the grainy effect alone. It's a known issue with OLED touch screens for Asus (at least that i know of).

I had tried the previous gen 1240p Zenbook 14x OLED non-touch and can confirm that it did not have the grainy look.

Most people don't seem to notice or have an issue with it otherwise it'd be mentioned more. However, it might also explain the amount of open boxes there were.

EDIT: Just want to add that this review of the 14x "Space Edition" mentions the graininess of the screen due to the digitizer:

https://www.ultrabookreview.com/5...on-review/

EDIT#2 8/21/23: Regarding Warranty

After talking with two Best Buy reps on the phone and one ASUS rep here's what they told me:

A)
Best Buy by default gives a 1 year warranty to all open box items which covers everything the manufacturer warranty does.
If it does have an active manufacturer warranty, you'll have to go through the manufacturer first and if it "times" out first then Best Buy will cover it until the 1 year period.

Best buy reps then confirmed that they saw my open box Zenbook in the system being covered for 1 year by Best Buy.

B)
ASUS USA rep confirmed with me that any open-box ASUS laptop purchased from Best Buy only will have only a 90 day warranty from ASUS regardless of what date the MyAsus App tells you.

I would encourage anyone who's worried to double check their Best Buy warranty status with a CS agent and get a reference# or Case ID# in the event something happens.

It has Windows 11 Home version.

I have this laptop and Windows 11 is awful with RAM. At idle, Windows 11 consumes at least 8gb of RAM on my laptop (with nothing open). With MS Teams, Firefox, and Outlook, RAM usage is pretty constant at 80%.

I've heard you can "downgrade" to Windows 10. That's my next move.

I will never understand glossy touch screens on laptops. Makes them unusable outside or anywhere there's glare, so you have to blast the brightness to see anything which kills the battery. Touch takes more battery too. Operating systems aren't designed for touch inputs. Just buy a tablet that's built from the ground up to be a touch only device.

I have a few year old Lenovo ultrabook with a glossy screen despite being advertised as having a matte screen. I almost returned it but got a screen protector which made it matte and looks great now.
Generally most, if not all touchscreen laptops have shiny screens, not only that Matt screens mute a lot of the color gamut, which makes them look dull and fuzzy

How does it compare to

It's not even a close comparison the screen quality alone, the asus blows it away, not to mention the i7 cpu in this one is way more power. I'd take this Asus anyway over that HP

It might not have a dedicated GPU, but I ask you to find me a better deal on an H series processor with an OLED screen. If you already have a RIG, this is the way to go.

I bought this a few weeks ago when it was on sale at this price. Battery life using Lightroom to edit pics was terrible. Maybe 2-3 hours. Good computer otherwise. Just wish Ram was upgradable since Lightroom uses so much. 16gb is doable though.

Technically nothing, you can plug one in the HDMI and use one of the USB-C ports for the other output or use a inexpensive USB-C dock from Amazon for like $30

I can definitely see that battery life happening if stressed that much.

Btw did you notice the graininess on your screen?

I just returned 8gb to switch to 16gb. But then I just realized there is only $50 different between this and Macbook m1. Which would be a better choice? I don't do any heavy works like video editing or gaming.
I'd lean towards an M1 personally but this laptop is likely faster and more up to date spec wise but apple build quality is second to none. We've got employees with 4-5 year old Airs with no issues

I've had my M1 since launch and not an issue with it between excel, emails and web surfing. Can even play Civ6 and KSP on it

The M2 is a no brainer for 200 more but that is a good chunk of chance financially. m1 is already 2 years old at this point

The MacBook at the lower end price point has 8GB Ram and non upgradeable 256GB storage, yea it's $50 more but it's quite gimped compared to this Asus, but if you gotta be in the Apple ecosystem then yea…

Trying to decide between this and the Macbook Air M1 base model for my daughter who's going to be a freshman in college this fall. She's been using a highschool-issued Chromebook for the last 4 years, so either will be a significant improvement. I was leaning towards the M1 Air until this Zenbook dropped in price, so now I'm not sure.

She doesn't need the extra memory or storage the Zenbook comes with, but she would enjoy the touchscreen.

On the other hand, I'm sure she would dig having iMessage & Facetime on the M1 Air.

Decisions, decisions...

iMessage & Facetime > Touchscreen in terms of usefulness. If that is the only factor in your decision making, the MBA M1 would be better choice. The only problem is that it's 3 years old now vs this ASUS being released this year. The extra ram will extended the possible lifespan of the ASUS as well. Value wise, the ASUS by far. The screen alone is a huge advantage.

Much longer battery life, very little heat output, no noise output, 20% less weight and Touch ID would probably also make the M1 the better choice for a college student who's already in the Apple ecosystem.
