When this item was still $200 I ordered this similar Midea portable AC from Walmart for $264. I liked that the Walmart one has a "Comfort Sense" remote that acts as the unit's thermostat:
I also find Walmart returns to be easier than Amazon. As it turns out I'm keeping the item anyway. At $180 I probably would have gone with the Amazon Midea or Frigidaire (they are likely identical on the inside).

How often have you had to replace the batteries in the remote?
I would assume it's pretty often if the remote is regularly waking itself up to check the temperature.
Doesn't seem like it is. This picture[cloudfront.net] of the back of the unit does not show any splitting of the hose port. At this price, you're much less likely to get a dual hose setup.
The thing I hate about portables, if you're trying to get rid of the humidly as well as cooling, you need to empty the water every hour or 2 depending on how humid it is. This one is the same.
I wish they had models with a hose so you can empty it out the window, like window units do....
Funny thing about this list is some of these are the same model, but rated different.
Over have of this list is OEMd by Midea. Just makes me wonder if it's more of the pick of the litter than the model. (basically the QC is all over the place). Midea also makes just about every Microswave (other than Panasonic) on the planet.

The one I have evaporates the water with a heated pan.

But most high end window air conditioners have this feature now and the batteries seem to last for a few years.
