This is a good price from a trusted third party Amazon seller. Amazon (direct) and Lowe's want $38 for these, and HD wants $37. Other than MisterWorker, with crazy shipping prices from Germany, there's nobody else that's close to this price right now.

These things are God-like! I bought this exact model in a pinch for $29.98 with Amazon overnight 4am-8am shipping one night after a stupid stripped screw forced me to postpone my lighting/misc switch replacement project in the living room. Completely saved the day and my sanity removing that hopelessly stripped screw like it was nothing and I finished that next morning after it arrived. Actually ate the extra $2.99 cost on top of it and didn't think I'd keep it, but it's one of my favorite tools now! This isn't too much of a deal from it's regular price tbh, but everyone should have at least one of them in their kit!

how's this compare to the traditional shop and farmer pliers from yesteryear?
Probably better grip, more ergonomic, more nimble, better locking
Only have a couple pairs of knipex(different styles,) but a lot of other and older pliers from popular brands. The knipex are levels above what you usually find at ace or walmart etc, most tool people rate them the best. though i have heard the newer icon clones from harbor freight are comparable to knipex for half the price, which really adds up if you are buying a set.

my relatives swear newer standard pliers are not nearly as good as older ones. If anyone is interested, you can get new old stock ww2 era pliers at harryepstein.com
I am very curious to know if these are worth it to buy when I already have some Cobra's. I know that tongue and groove pliers can exert significantly more force than slip-joints, and I have been able to remove things like broken screws etc using my Cobras. However, Knipex makes such a high quality product I want some reason to buy these.
Just use needle nose vise grips next time..they're like $15 and better than these for removing stripped screws. You don't have so squeeze and spin at same time. Just clamp then spin - a lot easier. This is coming from a electrician
But it was those needle-nosed grips that were exactly what failed me when I thought they wouldn't. What makes these grips infinitely better is that it has grooves perpendicular to the regular direction, creating the ultimate traction that gives a screw no choice but to turn. These Knipex, Vampliers, etc. are in a league of their own for that kind of job.

That's the tongue and groove episode. He did a slip joint episode, but didn't review the Knipex in that one.
