First off, I own the 15 watt tube combo, not this. I was stating that this amp has an identical feature set as an amp twice its price. Not everyone needs a tube amp. Solid states do have some advantages, especially for new player. They tend to need less maintenance, they are typically more efficient on power draw and generate less heat because of it. I use a Quilter 101 with a monoprice 1x12 cab and my HX Stomp based pedalboard in my studio for that exact reason. Graduating from one piece of gear to the next is part of the guitar journey for most people. Heck, I've had a dozen or so over the years. With that said, I still have my original Crate G10 from 1989 and use it as my bench amp. I understand your point about spending more on a better piece of gear, I even said as much in my post, but for someone only spend $100-200 on a beginner guitar, it just doesn't make a lot of sense. This amp is 1/5 the price of the Stage Right 15 and is perfectly fine to learn on. Plus, a new player probably can't truly appreciate the feel or tonal differences. As for the Cube Baby, it's a cute toy, but it sounds over processed and fake to me. It's also a bit of a one trick pony. Pedals are like paint on a palette... you can paint a much more vivid picture with a good variety. The Cube Baby is like only having shades of red. I guess that doesn't matter to the colorblind.
Hey we agree on a lot and let's just agree to disagree about practice only amps. That's cool.

One thing though; there is nothing wrong with how the Cube Baby sounds (LOL). It sounds to me like you think $35 is not possible; when it is in fact great sounding and on par with the sound of expensive multi pedals. Do you have one? Perhaps you didn't have a chance to try all it's options and it depends on what you pair it with. I know exactly what it sounds like on monitors alone, clean set MP 15W into it's power amp combo, up front with the tube 12AX7's and with the Baby's non-tube pre amp, tweaked and stacked. Including it's MESA 4x12 cab IR. There are many ways to position and balance it; so perhaps you did not have time to get to all that. Many people do not understand the Cube Baby set on the clean surf amps (1,2 and 3) then will stomp out distortion; when maybe they just needed to turn the amp select knob up, with each tone and gain knob, amp matching ranges also, for more dirt as needed.

I'm not kidding. When I use just the CB for dirt it's fine and when I use just the MP combo for it's 12AX7 dirt it's fine too. Together they get to FUZZ! I have to turn one of them down a bit, for highest gain distortion. Boost is a balancing matter also. It chugs!

WHAT ABOUT THIS ONE: below $100... https://www.monoprice.com/product...DB8WXww [monoprice.com]
You can make anything play; but the Monoprice 1x8 "champ" has no EQ, no reverb tank, no FX connections, no 12" great guitar voiced speaker. It's basically like an over simplified amp head; but with inferior speaker and you could do better. I say no "step up" or practice ONLY amps.

What part of a 1x12 combo is the best value did you miss? A portable cab, Celestion 1x12, 12AX7(3) preamp with 3-band EQ, (2)EL84 power amp with its Presence knob, and FX loop connections and more. All that cannot be had for less. Mild Spring Reverb too. And with tube then 15 to 20 W is the do all volumes sweet spot. Bedroom to stage. It's 25 lbs!!!!!!!! And would fit in a tiny sports car. If your girlfriend's not fat. Wink

Save for either the Katana 100 Mk II used (~$250?) or get the (~$237) MP15W tube combo and including a Cube Baby pedal; brand new, for LESS cash. Or add a more expensive multi FX unit if you wish. Yes! The Katana has everything built-in; but it's bigger and heavier too and more subject to obsolescence. Even with the long promise of "Solid state". It will cost you more after about 3 years. Keeping the FX (+) stuff separate and at $35 makes upgrading latter just $35 possible max loss. See? Do you want a Katana MK I ? Because you will likely feel the same way about the MK II, etc. Think approximately 3 years ahead(God willing). Will you want a Mark II then? Whereas; the MP 15W would have been a stellar amp 20 years ago! [It's slightly better than the Laney before it]. It will probably still be valued well and played 20 years ahead too. Just because of modern changing. The FX unit simply plugs into it. Foot control at no extra (high) charge.

Remember: I said keep to the right things combined. And the right things separate. Plus both. Don't think everything is either/or. Only some things are; like pregnant or not. Embrace the power of both; when it's right. There is no tube vs. solid state. Just good and poor gear. I say again, the Cube Baby holds it's own with the MP 15W combo tubes. There is no cheap sound in it. That's a myth. A false assumption or by ignorance. And easy knobs are the way to go.

Do you think you could look at the three stomp buttons on the Cube Baby and simply press the right two together. Now you have manual mode. It's just like an amp with knobs; but one with 9 amp channels and 8 cab IR's too. And the FX pedals too.

Need a tube screamer? Just slide the CB's switch to ON. It's the default 1st preset and left button. Your auto Screamer, upon turning it ON.

Singular (etc) separated pedals, board(s), wiring and power for them can not be a better deal. Ever. It's math. A good multi pedal(or device) is LESS expensive.
