I used the 12k model last week in 105 degree heat and it sat at 1160 watts consistently for hours trying to cool the place down.
I can tell with the inverter technology it does not spike the power as bad.
Interesting - I figured it might get even worse than the ~750-800W I'd occasionally seen on hot days in the mid 90s. If it's a decent size place with just the one AC and residual 100f+ heat, I can see it needing to run hard for a long time gradually remove all the residual heat in the room's contents/walls/floors/ceilings.
I sure have. I'm doing in depth research for my off grid solar system. I have 4 varying midea window units each on their own energy monitoring. What information would you like? I've collected all sorts of data.
Did you get any of the Midea heat pump window units? I've been trying to get info from them on efficiency/COP, but it's been really tough. I'd love to see data from a user.
anyone ever try to install one of these backwards to heat a place in the winter? what's the lowest temperature setting available?
edit: obviously not gonna work in snowy climates, but here in the SF Bay Area, it hovers around 50°F during the winter days
Midea makes/made one with a heat pump; Costco was selling it last year, and it was available on Amazon still a few weeks ago. Now I don't see it though. I can't figure out why they'd stop selling it; it seemed like a great unit.

My guess is that the one also providing heat will work till late fall, so it is not the end of the season for such large discounts. There is a portable one (and also dual hose, the kind you want) with heat for like $600, perhaps around late Nov- early Dec would be a good time to check for sales. Now why the window model is not available right now? Maybe the sold out for 2023, more to come in the spring when it can also be used as heater until warm weather arrives.
Midea is the top brand selling windows ACs in China. I would say their products should last. I am thinking of adding one to my home to relieve my 19-year-old 1.5 ton AC which breaks every other year. A quote from AC company saying will cost me 10k to replace it including the labor costs.
Definitely not the case for the 12k BTU Midea, but it is nice and quiet if it's at/near temp and just maintaining it. Mine modulates itself between ~550W for max cooling down to about 90W just to gradually maintain temp.
Fyi they have a weird algo. I've seen it hit 1200w under certain conditions.

Lmao... it's not a good idea AT ALL, but technically speaking could you? I guess.. but you'd have to modify and/or tilt it a lot and make sure the condensation from the normally-inside coil condenses into water still drains outside. That or collect it for plants if you want to be "green" or something.
Better to wait for an inverter window AC that can act as a heat pump. I'd definitely like the option of being able to heat efficiently with maybe 500-1000W of solar power.. but it's going to involve a mini-split installation by the look of things (much if not all of which you can usually do yourself)

Yep - see my last comment before this one talking about outdoor temperature affecting efficiency/burning more power - just like when it gets colder and colder while heating with a heat pump.

yeah, except inverter mini-splits are like $600, not $200. a unit with a two way valve like paweiss was saying would be ideal, but it'll probably be more than $200 too. inverter drive is great for small solar setups where the startup load is important.
as for condensation, letting it drip inside, directly into a plant, would maybe keep me from killing them from lack of watering. two birds, one stone… 😂
Got a 12K BTU one from Costco and it's quieter than fans around the house. I didn't even install it with the screw-in brackets I just use the support bracket and window to support the unit.

I think AC's are seasonal items. I saw one at Costco but it was a one off. I picked up the 12K BTU one for $150/ last one. Halloween and Christmas stuff coming in so next year.
Literaly just got done installing this thing, and if your window is on the smaller side if the scale it's a huge pita. Where the pin holes in the cross bracket are make it so that it is impossible to actually center on the window. Generarically that wouldn't matter much, but it only gave me about 1.5" of clearance on one side to install the stabilizing arm, whose screw is located 12" from the top.
Also make sure that you have a full 13.5" if clearance in your top to bottom. Forgot about the lip and had to remove some hardware to get it to be tall enough.
Will update shortly on performance.
How small is your window? Mines is 25W x 16.5H. Its over a flat roof so maybe I can put something out there prop it up?
