For those technologically inclined, one option is to keep your existing garage keypad and add a $40 Wyze camera.
This would be more realistic (but more of an install pain) if it was wired.

For homes set far back enough from the street with a longer drive, the garage again becomes the primary access.
Where did you see it needs 5 GHz? I see that it supports both 2.4 and 5 (which is unusual IME for IoT devices, 2.4-only is common).
My main gripe was the battery. On any sensitivity setting, it would last for about a month (YMMV based on traffic). Recharging the discharged battery takes many hours so expect significant downtime. The best (and only) fix was to buy a backup battery for about $40 and rotate them as needed. I would have preferred an option to hardwire it with a 12V wire.
There's also the very minor inconvenience of having to screw/unscrew the tiny screw each time.
I have my sensitivity setting at max and it does a decent job but has room for improvement. People passing by at walking speed are sometimes nearly out of the picture by the time they're captured. It reminds me of earlier versions of Ring.
Getting the Apple Watch app to work was a pain at first but it works fine for the most part (I have the non-cellular version so it requires connectivity via my phone). Customer service eventually had me uninstall/reinstall the app then it worked.
MyQ doesn't connect to Alexa directly but you can get it to work by incorporating IFTTT.
Overall, the pros outweigh the cons for my use case. It gets the job done for $99. A definite buy for me at this discounted price.
I know that. What I am saying is that it was stupid to not consider hardwiring options for power. So, either 120V, or more likely try to siphon off the power that the door opener puts out, since there will always be a door opener nearby and not necessarily 120V. Door openers put out some amount of voltage to light up the internal keypads. These IOT devices don't need a ton of wattage to maintain charges - my ring doorbells siphon power off of the 24vac transformer for the doorbell, for example.
I guess if you really got frustrated with charging, you could find a transformer and hardwire 120V-transformer-device. That would basically make the unit "plugged in" and you'd never need to charge it, but it wouldn't work on battery either.
Can't see how that's really cost competitive. The MyQ hubs for a single door can often be had for as little as $20-25; and that's basically a plug and play option with a nice app and no fooling around hacking together something. Time has some value even if the commercial option is $10 more than piecing something together, plus it's bound to be far more functional out of the box.

What makes better sense would be to make this a doorbell replacement, so that the camera can be used for both purposes, and should work unless your garage door is really far away from your doorbell. However at that point it's probably easier just to get a smart lock for your front door lol.
